Noise Pop: Bottomless Pit, Kinski, Vir, and Wild Moth at Bottom of the Hill

Wild Moth The Bottom of the Hill was still, and admittedly empty as the evening began to take place. Tonight’s performances would include acts both new and old, as musical veterans and newcomers came together under the musical booking force that is Noise Pop. Chicago’s Bottomless Pit would be the main attraction; featuring former members of Silkworm and Seam, it felt right to assume that tonight’s performers would feature musicians who have their fair share of tour stories. Joining Bottomless Pit would be Seattle’s Kinski and local San Francisco acts Vir, and Wild Moth. Each band carrying that kind of [...]

Review & Photos: No Joy, Heavy Hawaii, Wild Moth, Burnt Palms @ Brick & Mortar Music Hall, 10/7/13

Photos by: Nicole L. Browner Red and blue lights sparsely illuminated the stage at Brick and Mortar Music Hall for the duration of Monday night's stacked lineup, featuring No Joy, Heavy Hawaii, Wild Moth, and Burnt Palms. The crowd gradually filled in throughout the evening, providing a respectable, albeit tame turnout for the show. Seaside trio Burnt Palms opened the show with a set of jangly beach rock to please the early-comers. Christina, blinded by the lights, thanked the small crowd for showing up early and admitted that she was unable to actually see how many people were watching. Punctual [...]

Photos/Review: Wild Moth celebrates the release of 'Over, Again' @ Thee Parkside 9/21/13

What to say about Wild Moth's record release show at Thee Parkside last Saturday? Well, it wasn't for the faint of heart. When The Bay Bridged booked Wild Moth to play our Noise Pop Happy Hour this past February, they were just getting settled into being a four-piece, and working through music to soon be compiled into their first full-length for Asian Man Records. In addition to self-releasing an eponymous 10-inch, Wild Moth released their "Mourning Glow" 7-inch on AMR last year. The Bay Bridged premiered side A of Over, Again back in August, and the entire record was officially [...]

Stream Side A of Wild Moth's debut LP 'Over, Again', due 9/17/13

San Francisco post-punk four-piece Wild Moth will release its full-length debut album Over, Again September 17 on Asian Man Records. Can't wait to hear it? No problem. You can exclusively stream the first half of the forthcoming release right here on The Bay Bridged. Following the band's Mourning Glow 7-inch EP and self-titled 10-inch, Over, Again was recorded by Jack Shirley at The Atomic Garden in Palo Alto. The new album expands upon the band's dark and heavy sound, with speedy pop melodies fluttering under the heavy-shredding guitars and commanding drums. It's a solid effort, but don't take my word [...]

Review & Photos: Speedy Ortiz, Shinobu, Wild Moth @ Bottom of the Hill

Speedy Ortiz (Photo: Tim Draut) Baby buzzband Speedy Ortiz rolled through Bottom of the Hill last night supporting their Best New Music certified debut full-length Major Arcana, which was released on Carpark Records about two weeks ago. Local punk rock bands Wild Moth and Shinobu opened the show. I was there. It was fun. San Francisco four-piece Wild Moth kicked off the night with a set of rowdy post-punk garage rock. I was only able to catch the tail end of their set, but from what I saw these dudes were shredding pretty hard. Future headliners for sure. Bay Area [...]

Speedy Ortiz supporting debut album at Bottom of the Hill

Fresh off the release of their debut LP, Speedy Ortiz will headline a show at Bottom of the Hill this Thursday, July 25. Carpark Records label-mate and local favorite GRMLN was removed from the bill due to a scheduling conflict, but Wild Moth and San Jose's Shinobu will support. Major Arcana, the debut full-length from Western Massachusetts' Speedy Ortiz, was released July 9 on Carpark. Following the Sports EP and a few singles, the new album asserts that singer-guitarist Sadie Dupuis’ idiosyncratically arresting lyrical style is the driving force that separates the band from fellow '90s-rock revivalists. Listen to album [...]

Review: The Bay Bridged Happy Hour @ Benders; Damien Jurado @ The Chapel, 3/1/13 (Noise Pop 2013)

Noise Pop 2013: Damien Jurado @ The Chapel 3/1/13 - photo by Debra Zeller Friday night's Noise Pop Festival offered a chance to see a clash of styles within a couple blocks of each other, both in terms of the music played and the venues. First, I caught The Bay Bridged's Noise Pop Happy Hour at Bender's featuring Golden Void, Wild Moth, and DSTVV, and then hitched over to another Noise Pop performance from Damien Jurado down the street at The Chapel. Since the event was organized by The Bay Bridged, it doesn't feel right to gush and gush about [...]
