Why? (photo: Robert Alleyne) A stellar lineup of music was showcased at the Fillmore Thursday night, February 22, 2018, as part of the 2018 Noise Pop festival. The headliners were the beloved Why?, who have been making music going on 13 years now. The great music didn't stop there as Mister Heavenly showed support, along with newer band Florist. Video Interview: WHY? at Fun Fun Fun Fest talking new album, European tour
WHY? may have been founded in Berkeley, but the remaining founders are a bunch of "Ohio boys," and they have all returned to their home state at this point. But that's okay, the Bay Area can still lay a legitimate claim to them. So I checked in with Doug McDiarmid, WHY?'s guitarist, while they were down in Austin, Texas for Fun Fun Fun Fest to find out how their new album Mumps, etc. is being received on the road and what they're up to next. Watch the video, above. Here's the first track from Mumps, etc., "Jonathan's Hope":
Video: Why? – "Strawberries"
Why?'s new album, Mumps, etc. is out now via Anticon - you can hear the album in its entirety via Spin and purchase via iTunes. Additionally, the official video for the upbeat, effervescent "Strawberries" has been unleashed. If you're on an extra Why? kick, check out the band's recent Sod in the Seed EP via Soundcloud.
Review: WHY?, Doseone, Serengeti @ Great American Music Hall, 8/31/12
When lead singer Yoni Wolf stands at the front of the stage, glowing with white light, his eyes glaring over the crowded pit with a smirk and the legs of crowd surfing twenty-something’s block your view, a few key observations bubble to the surface. For better or worse, this is not the same WHY? that I last watched at the GAMH some three years prior. Perhaps I’m growing older (a fitting self-doubt for a WHY? show), but the crowd Thursday night was rowdy, drunk, and young. Teenager young, it seemed, which I think explains, in part, the aggressive crowd surfing [...]
WHY? – "Jonathan's Hope"
WHY? has dropped another track from their upcoming release Mumps, out October 2. In just the beginning lines of "Jonathan's Hope," it's easy to imagine that the track is stringing along a concept throughout the record, which wouldn't be out of character for Yoni Wolf to do. Looking forward to another concept album from WHY?, well we are, too! The band will likely play this track as well as many other new ones from the LP and the recently released EP this Thursday at the Great American Music Hall. anticon has posted this track for download over on their Soundcloud [...]

WHY? to release new EP & LP this fall, full tour announced
Indie hip-hop/pop group WHY? have announced a new EP & LP to be released this fall, ending a three year new-release hiatus since 2009's understated but excellent Eskimo Snow . The EP, called Sod in the Seed, will be out August 14th through Anticon/City Slang. Check out the title track below — it's classic WHY?, as the track features leader singer Yoni Wolf's nimble hip hop tongue riding over an upbeat bass guitar groove. Their new full length doesn't have a title yet, but is slated for a fall release. Catch Why? in San Francisco when they make their way [...]
