Sour Widows release “Tommy” video, single

We’re stoked to present the latest from Sour Widows, the Oakland-based shoegaze dreamboats. “Tommy” hit the waves on January 31, ahead of the band's forthcoming self-titled EP (out February 28). The video features a few of Oakland’s iconic spots and some pretty adorable shots of the band members doing things like eating doughnuts, petting kitties and playing gigs. Shout out to that Weezer-reminiscent guitar melodies and that solo. The band has a lot more in the works this spring. They’ll be starting up their West Coast tour with LA-based Cryogeyser then heading to SXSW to play the Phluff unofficial showcase, [...]

Review + Photos: ID10T Fest

Chris Hardwick (photo: Estefany Gonzalez) Holy festival season Batman! In a world oversaturated with summer festivals, ID10T brought together one of the most diverse festival crowds to date. For its first year, Creator and Host Chris Hardwick combined comics, comedy and live music for a truly unique festival experience. With tickets at around half the cost of other multiple day festivals, the two-day laugh fest offered a little something for everyone. Music lovers got to enjoy songs from legends like Weezer on the main stage, as well as fresh tunes from newer acts like Mothers, an indie-folk band from Athens Georgia. [...]

Your Guide to BottleRock Napa Valley, ’90s Edition

As we told you last month, BottleRock Napa Valley – the festival that, despite a pretty stellar lineup during its inaugural campaign in 2013, was marred by reports of terrible traffic, oppressive heat (and little shade), and post-fest financial issues – is back for a second year after a group of local investors took over the festival's operations (and massive debts) and takes place May 30 to June 1 at the Napa County Fairgrounds. The new producers' plan to revamp the fest into a fiscally viable operation for years to come apparently starts with an effort to get children of [...]

SF supergroup venerates the =w= @ BotH Thursday

Nostalgic albums -- they cause the ear to tingle upon the first note of the first song and once soundtracked every moment of a period of your life. Call them crazy, but a group of local talent had the valiant idea of giving Weezer's Pinkerton a public genuflect at Bottom of the Hill tomorrow night with two more Bay Area acts: Wendy Darling and The Definite Articles (9pm, $10). If half-Japanese girls are your thing or maybe you're just tired of sex altogether, there's at least one song for you. The headliners will perform the 1996 masterpiece from start to [...]
