Photos, Videos and Thanks: Scenes from The Bay Brewed at the Verdi Club, 12/3/11

Photos by: Paige K. Parsons Videos by: Joe Hayes Not to boast or anything, but seriously, how much fun was The Bay Brewed? A hearty thanks to everyone who attended SF's first ever indie rock and roll beer festival, as well as to everyone involved in making the afternoon so memorable. Enjoy these great photos and videos from last weekend's sold-out event, although, fair warning: they might make you a little hungry and thirsty. [nggallery id=133]

Mixtape: Music to Drink Beer to (Podcast #261) Think of our latest mixtape as something of an hour-long indie music/beer pairing, inspired by our upcoming The Bay Brewed rock and roll beer festival. Photos: White Fence, Sea of Bees, Weekend @ CMJ Music & Film Marathon 2011

There's something comforting about being across the country and seeing familiar faces on a stage you've only seen in show review photos across the blogosphere. At the 2011 CMJ Music & Film Festival, there was a considerate amount of Bay Area bands playing on the unofficial circuit -- including (but not limited to) Weekend, White Fence and Sea of Bees -- and those were the handful that we managed to catch out in New York this year. White Fence Arguably the tightest set I've ever seen this band, or ANY band play, White Fence ultimately shattered any perception I had [...]

CMJ 2011 Preview: Where to see Bay Area bands in NYC this week

As if 26 bands in two days this past weekend at Treasure Island Music Festival wasn't enough for us, so comes CMJ Music & Film Marathon in New York. Plenty of San Francisco bands are headed out to make us proud, and The Bay Bridged will be providing some light coverage of the festival throughout the week. To those who will be in the area, here's a couple highlights from this year's schedule: Oakland's Weekend will be playing a heavy schedule this week, the highlighted show being the Brooklyn Vegan Friday night showcase at Music Hall of Williamsburg with Braids, [...]

Don’t miss at TIMF 2011: Local openers (Geographer, Thee Oh Sees, Weekend)

There are many reasons to arrive early to the Treasure Island Music Festival this weekend: short lines for the festival shuttles, plenty of time to explore the festival grounds, picking out choice spots at the Bridge and Tunnel Stages, and most importantly, catching this year's local openers. This year's set of locals represent some of the best of the Bay. Geographer will open the festivities on Saturday, while Weekend and Thee Oh Sees will occupy two early slots on Sunday. Geographer - "Kites" Thee Oh Sees - "Carrion Crawler" Weekend - Hazel by Slumberland Records I remember thinking at last [...]

Taking Stock of August: A mix featuring ten of our favorite songs from the blog last month

If you're anything like me, you know how difficult it can be to keep track of all of the new music that's constantly floating around the Internet. Here's our latest month-in-review mix collecting some our favorite new (or new to us) songs recently posted on the website. Gathered in the mix are ten new tracks that were posted on in August, with links below to download each of them individually. The Bay Bridged - Best of the Blog August 2011 Mixtape Tracklisting: 1. Ganglians - "Drop the Act" 2. Weekend - "Hazel" 3. tUnE-yArDs - "Gangsta (Ad-Rock remix)" 4. [...]

Weekend – “Hazel”

Weekend - Hazel by Slumberland Records Having patiently waited to hear that first taste of the young Bay Area shoegaze/post-rock band Weekend after their debut LP, Sports, we are given "Hazel." It's the first single off the forthcoming Red EP, out on Slumberland September 20 (but Insound is already offering pre-orders). The jubilant, New Wave-y grand opening of "Hazel" comes as a bit of a surprise, but soon enough the splashes of noisy feedback kick in, and you're well reminded of who you're listening to. We're stoked to see Weekend next at the Treasure Island Music Festival on October 16.

Weekend plays last show for a while at the Indy, recording new Slumberland EP this week

Weekend headlined the Independent last Thursday, with local support from Jealousy and Clipd Beaks, just before taking an extended break from playing shows. The Independent was firmly packed, and though Weekend was slightly under-amplified, their set was strong with a handful of new songs performed. They'll be in the studio this week, likely documenting a few of those songs at Ruminator Audio, where they recorded the previous release, Sports. There is no release date yet for Weekend's follow-up EP on Slumberland. Weekend will head to Europe next month to play the Roskilde Festival in Denmark, which couldn't have a more [...]
