Wax Idols plot national tour in support of upcoming release, American Tragic

It’s been more than two years since fearsome post-punk group Wax Idols released their last album — the haunting and alluring Discipline and Desire — a hiatus that has left the band’s fans clamoring for new material. Fortunately, that break is nearing an end, as the Hether Fortune-led contingent is set to release American Tragic on October 16. The album will come out via Collect Records, a new label for the band, which formerly played on Slumberland. Fortune and company will hit the road to support the new album, starting with a record release party at Bottom of the Hill [...]

Review & Photos: Refused, Wax Idols impress at Great American Music Hall

Refused (photo: Nikolas Soelter) Thursday evening saw the return of Swedish punk legends Refused to San Francisco, this time performing at the Great American Music Hall, and not the notably larger Warfield Theatre as they did on their last visit. Perhaps you can only hold people's interest so long, even after a 14-year hiatus, although the night's inspired and frenzied audience indicated otherwise. Wax Idols (photo: Nikolas Soelter) Opening the show were local favorites Wax Idols. Frontwoman Hether Fortune addressed the fact that the band has been quiet for some time, explaining they've been working on new material, had member [...]

http://media.libsyn.com/media/thebaybridged/Beer_Mix_2013.mp3 Download: Mixtape: Bay Area Jams to Accompany Beer Drinking (Podcast #320) As we've long said, we're love great beer almost as much as we love great music. Combine the two, and you've got a recipe for a good time. This mixtape is something of a successor to our 2011 rock and beer pairing, collecting a whole mess of local rock and roll bands that sound great when paired with a tasty pint. The mix features music from 20 Bay Area bands, including garage nuggets from Shannon and the Clams and Warm Soda, hard rock jams courtesy of FUZZ and [...]

Review & Photos: Weekend, Wax Idols, Chasms @ The Independent, 7/26/13

Photos by Tanner Pikop On Friday night, Bay Area locals Chasms and Wax Idols took the stage at the Independent with Weekend. And what better time for a night full of goth music than the middle of the chilly part of the summer. There’s something completely unbeatable about a band with amazing live performance quality. You can listen to your favorite band’s record on repeat all you want, but if you see them live and they suck, that whole facade of their recordings falls to the floor. You feel ambiguous loss. As if your best friend went to Burning Man [...]
