Behind The Scenes: Live 105 BFD
Phoenix (photo: Estefany Gonzalez) With headliners like Phoenix and Franz Ferdinand Live 105's BFD is just what the name stands for, a Big F***ing Deal. While those bands alone are worth a $37- $90 ticket, the one-day festival also featured dozens of other amazing artists. Among the list of performers were Milky Chance, Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness, SWMRS, Dreamers, Picture Atlantic, Missio, Taking Back Sunday, and the New Up. I snapped pictures of musicians on each of the four festival stages (well, five if you count the two rotating Bud Light festival stages) and caught up with a few acts who made this [...]
Mixtape: Northern California’s Best Music Festivals
This episode first appeared on KQED.org. http://media.libsyn.com/media/thebaybridged/Festivals_2017_Mixtape.mp3 Download: Mixtape: Northern California's Best Music Festivals (Podcast #407) Music festival season unofficially kicked off over Memorial Day weekend, with the latest installment of the BottleRock Napa Valley festival attracting 120,000 attendees for three days of food, wine, and over 80 bands ranging from the Foo Fighters to the Napa Youth Symphony. The number and types of music fests has grown considerably in recent years -- among this year's new offerings are not one, but two new music and comedy weekends coming to the Bay in June -- surely to the dismay of [...]

Playlist: Cocktails yearn for the summer
We've been big fans of Cocktails here at the Bay Bridged for a long time. Their most recent LP on Father/Daughter, Adult Life, was a wonderful album full of catchy songs about growing into an adult in San Francisco that just felt like the right. Needless to say, we couldn't be more pleased that Cocktails is joining the bill for our upcoming show at Slim's with WATERS and GRMLN this Friday night. Cocktails has wrapped up recording at Tiny Telephone for their follow up to Adult Life, which should be out this summer. While we anxiously await new material, I [...]

WATERS’ Van Pierszalowski reflects on his career, the Bay, and more
I'm a relative latecomer to the WATERS bandwagon. After all, I listened to Chuck D when he told me not to believe the hype, and for the most part he's right because most over-hyped indie bands and pop music today are pale reflections of the '80s and '90s — regurgitated melodies and recycled beats. And even though I usually trust the taste of The Bay Bridged, they've championed the brainchild of Van Pierszalowski, plus early projects like the folky Port O'Brien, so much over the years I couldn't help but feeling the talent was getting blown out of proportion. Then [...]

Mixtape: Northern California’s Best Summer Music Festivals
http://media.libsyn.com/media/thebaybridged/Summer_Festivals_2015_Mix.mp3 Download: Mixtape: Northern California's Best Summer Music Festivals (Podcast #363) That the San Francisco Bay Area has seen a rapid rise in the number of music festivals over the last decade isn't a distinctly local phenomenon, but there's something about the way the Bay does festival season that feels unique. In many cases, it's the use of beautiful public spaces, city and state parks that become part of the festival experience. Or maybe it's the way that our festivals invest more time and effort into making sure that the food and beverage offerings are compelling on their own. There's [...]
