Warm Soda is back home with a second pressing of 'Someone For You' (win tix to their Chapel show!)

On the heels of a European tour, the four guys of Warm Soda are back in the Bay Area and they've brought home some treats for us. Last week, the band announced the second pressing of its debut LP, Someone For You, this time offering a white and rainbow-splattered record that looks a lot like the top of an ice-cream cone. If you missed out on the first pressing, snag a copy from Castle Face Records before this one sells out too. It comes with a free limited edition flexi of "Lost for Words," off of the label's Son of Flex compilation. The band is [...]

Fuzz City releases second annual 'Summer of Fuzz' cassette

Flying under the radar earlier this summer was the second installment in Fuzz City Records' Summer of Fuzz compilation series, released exclusively on cassette back on June 10. As with last year's debut, Summer of Fuzz Volume 2 is chock full o' hot summertime cuts from a host of bands from around the Bay and beyond, including Cool Ghouls, Burnt Ones, White Mystery Drags, Part Time, Sabba Rabba, and label founder Matthew Melton's band Warm Soda. Melton was kind enough to share a few tracks from Volume 2 with me recently, and you can hear those cuts (from Drags, Part [...]

Warm Soda – "Tell Me In A Whisper" b/w "This Changes Everything"

Before heading out on a month-long European tour in early July, Warm Soda quietly released a new 7-inch with two brand new tracks via Italian label Goodbye Boozy Records. The vinyl, which was a limited edition of 300 copies split between two different covers, featured an a-side "Tell Me In A Whisper" that is the perfect lo-fi pop song that Matthew Melton and company are becoming quite adept at penning. The b-side "This Changes Everything" takes a serious cue from Is This It-era material from The Strokes, with the frontman singing in his best blasé sneer over a pepped-up mish-mash [...]

Warm Soda performs "Star Gazer" for Converse Rubber Tracks

Warm Soda is so hot right now! Seriously though, we've been posting a lot about these guys lately, but for good reason. So far this year, the band has toured to the East Coast and back, played festivals like SXSW and the inaugural Hickey Fest, dropped its debut full-length LP and released two music videos, one for "Busy Lizzy" and one for "Jeanie Loves Pop".  Most recently, Warm Soda teamed up with Converse Rubber Tracks, who just brought its pop-up recording studio to San Francisco's Different Fur Studios, to record a video for "Star Gazer," capturing a playful evening in the city that ends [...]

Warm Soda premiere video for 'Jeanie Loves Pop' with SPIN

Oakland's Warm Soda unveiled a video for "Jeanie Loves Pop" last week with Spin. A send-up-slash-love-letter to the wicked power of rock 'n' roll that Warm Soda embodies and adores, the plot of “Jeanie Loves Pop” sorta sounds like a walks-into-a-bar joke: a teenage girl, a priest, some worried parents and a bunch of other people gather in a suburban house to save said teenage girl from the clutches of a Warm Soda LP. It doesn't go as planned. “Jeanie Loves Pop” comes from their debut album, Someone for You, released on Castle Face Records in March. Next week, the [...]

Warm Soda stream new album, 'Someone for You,' on Paste

Released only a few days ago, Warm Soda’s debut record, Someone for You, is now available for streaming at Paste. If you’re not ready to pony up for the Oakland quartet’s record, you can listen to it here. The album is also available for purchase on Castle Face Records (which we recommend: it sounds better at a decibel level your laptop speakers can't handle). Fresh off SXSW, Warm Soda are currently on tour. They will be on the road until the end of April, wrapping up at Brick and Mortar and Bottom of the Hill on the 20th and 26th. [...]

Warm Soda release new music video, hosting record release party 2/23/2013

We may be a few weeks passed the release of their debut LP Someone For You, and sure they've been playing a steady stream of shows around the Bay Area since then, but the four guys of Warm Soda are finally hosting an official record release party on Saturday, February 23rd at Night Light in Oakland. Like the band's limited edition, translucent turquoise and rainbow-speckled vinyl (pictured above and unfortunately, sold out), its music is colored with a bit of everything - the important things, at least: sugary pop, fast-paced punk and filthy rock and roll all topped off with [...]

Warm Soda streams first single off debut LP 'Someone For You', playing the Hemlock with Cocktails and DSTVV this Friday, 2/1/13

Warm Soda – the new project from Easy Bay denizen, Tennessee native, and former Bare Wires frontman Matthew Melton (above, far right) – recently released its first full-length Someone For You via Castle Face Records. After his old band's dissolution last spring, Melton teamed up Rob Good (above, second from left) to start Fuzz City (both the label and and the East Oakland studio), and he eventually recruited Good for his new venture, along with drummer Ian McBrayer (above, far left) and bassist Chase Oren (above, second from right). The result is a sound that is raw, but not too [...]

Cocktails debut single from new EP, release show with Warm Soda and DSTVV at The Hemlock on 2/1/13

Photo by Mathew Scott San Francisco "slop-pop" band Cocktails are set to release their debut 7-inch EP on Father Daughter Records in February, and last week premiered the track "Hey Winnie" from the album at Impose Magazine. "Hey Winnie" is two minutes of garage-pop perfection - a great beat, fuzzy guitars, and a hook you'll be humming all day. Not only is the self-titled EP Cocktails' first vinyl release, it's also the first local release for San Francisco/Miami based Father Daughter, which has put together a very nice roster of bands since getting started in 2009. Check out this recent [...]
