Wand’s Cory Hanson performing solo acoustic set today at Aquarius Records

Wand is known for some fiery, fuzzed-out garage-psych, so the idea of a solo acoustic set by Cory Hanson sounds like a unique experience worth checking out. Hanson will be at Aquarius Records at 3pm for his free solo appearance, which will also stream live on PressureDrop.tv. Later tonight, the full Wand band will be headlining the Brick & Mortar Music Hall with The Strange Land and Personal Best. More info on that show can be found here. Wand playing Bottom of the Hill with CCR Headcleaner

(photo: Justin Tenney) LA garage-rockers Wand are coming to Bottom of the Hill on April 15 to headline an all ages gig with The Strange Land and CCR Headcleaner. Wand's new LP, Golem, was released in March via In The Red Records. The album, engineered by Chris Woodhouse and assisted by Bob Marshall, was mixed (with Wand) and recorded by Woodhouse at The Dock in Sacramento. If you're familiar with Woodhouse's prolific resume as mixer/engineer (see Ty Segall, Thee Oh Sees, et al), you already know what you're in for without hearing a single note on Wand's new album. With [...]

Mixtape: The Best New Bands from South by Southwest 2015

And while all of that was true, the week seemed to afford as many opportunities as ever to see a wide variety of emerging indie talent from around the world. If this is the scaled-down South By, then its future is safe for indie bands and [...]

Live This Month: September 2014 — an audio guide to upcoming SF concerts

http://media.libsyn.com/media/thebaybridged/LTM_September_2014.mp3 Download: Live This Month: September 2014 (Podcast #345) In Live This Month, we sample some of the great local and out-of-town bands performing in the coming month in the San Francisco Bay Area. If you dig back-to-basics noise pop -- the kind of indie rock that's propelled by great hooks, not trends and hype -- you're in luck this month. Scottish trio PAWS just released Youth Culture Forever, and the band's tight songs are matched by a live ferocity. Another trio crafting explosive, 90s-influenced rock is Slothrust; the Brooklyn band's Of Course You Do arrived earlier this year. As [...]

Mikal Cronin contributes “Soul in Motion” to latest LAMC release

(Photo by Daniel Kielman) Following a monster 2013 that saw the release of his stellar sophomore LP MCII and a headlining gig at The Bay Brewed, Mikal Cronin has kept a relatively low profile so far 2014, playing a handful of California shows, prepping for a run of four summer festivals concluding with a stop at Outside Lands on August 8, and (quietly) participating in the latest release in Famous Class Records' LAMC (Less Artists More Condos) series. Yes, back on April 1, Famous Class dropped LAMC #11 featuring Cronin's "Soul In Motion" with Vancouver band Wand's "Screaming Eye" on [...]
