Best of 2009: Micayla Grace of Leopold and his Fiction on Vetiver

One of my favorite SF-based release from 2009 is Vetiver’s Tight Knit. Listening to this album is as soothing as is a cup of chamomile tea with honey on a rainy day – or like plugging in an air purifier in a smoky hotel room in Texas. Tight Knit is beautifully timeless from start to finish, confident and optimistic, and listening to it evokes a notion that reminds me to enjoy life’s moments, however swift and fleeting. Oh yea, and one of my favorite musical moments of ‘09 was listing to “Everyday” live from the top of the Treasure Island [...]

Citay and Vetiver get remixed

New, Improved, LIVE participants Citay have been hard at work this year on a new album, but they also took some time to compile reworkings of songs from 2007's Little Kingdom into a new album called Remixes. Says Dead Oceans: From the ambient textures of White Rainbow's "Eye on Dollar" remix to Cornershop's Anthony Saffery adding sitar and percussion to "First Fantasy," these are anything but typical remix rave-ups. These Are Powers' Brenmar (aka Bill Salas) gives "Moonburn" a playful, skittering treatment, while Black Mountains' Steve McBean adds his effected vocals to "Former Child" – the end result sounding more [...]

The Bay Bridged Presents: Vetiver’s CD Release Party Tonight!

Amidst seemingly nonstop US and European touring, Vetiver returns to San Francisco in early April for a very special homecoming performance. It was a treat to see the band at the Bay Area Takeover at SXSW and we're very happy to present the official CD release party for their latest album, Tight Knit, out now on Sub Pop Records. As many critics have noted, the new album is an incredibly moving work, full of memorable layered songs that sound great live. Advance tickets are highly recommended for this one! Episode 158: Vetiver

[podcast][/podcast] Subscribe to the The Bay Bridged weekly podcast to get each new episode downloaded free to your iTunes the moment it's published! This week's podcast features Vetiver, a folk-rock band led by San Francisco's Andy Cabic and one that likely needs little introduction to Bay Area indie music fans. After moving from North Carolina to SF following the dissolution of his band The Raymond Brake, Cabic found himself immersed in a community of forward-thinking musicians, eventually co-founding the band Tussle and creating a demo of solo recordings that found its way to Thom Monahan (Pernice Brothers, The Lilys). Over [...]
