Photo Recap: The Bay Area rocks South by Southwest 2012
Two Gallants at the Google Live Lot. 03/16/12 I present to you some photos of just a few of the Bay Area bands that played SXSW this year. I'm only one man, so I called on a couple friends to contribute photos as well. But even still, there was only so wide a net we could cast. For the first time in years, for instance, I somehow managed to not catch a single Thee Oh Sees concert — but have no fear, a Spin photographer captured this amazing moment (seriously, click through, it's worth it). Gratuitous second shot of Two [...]
Noise Pop 2012: Two Gallants, White Cloud, Greg Ashley @ Edinburgh Castle, 2/23/12
Equally passionate and effortless, Two Gallants rolled through a set of old favorites and new works the first night of their two-night stand at the Edinburgh Castle on Thursday. Wedged in between the short-lived freak folk ascendance (Devandra Banhart, Joanna Newsom, and various hairy trolls) and the reverb revival (Thee Oh Sees, Fresh and Onlys, and various recovering shoegazers), Tyler Vogel and Adam Stephens proved to be the quintessential SF house band for the past some-odd years. Built from adolescent busking, onetime national buzz, and some hairy tour tales, the two stir punk-adled emotion with rural rhythmic accents, and never [...]

Mixtape: Twenty Years of Noise Pop (Podcast #269)
Mixtape: Twenty Years of Noise Pop (Podcast #269) In February, the Noise Pop Music Festival turns twenty by gathering over one hundred local and touring bands from across the indie spectrum for a week of exciting concerts all over the City. Two decades of championing independent music is an accomplishment worth celebrating, and this mixtape collects twenty bands that have performed at Noise Pop events in years past. As you'll hear, a whole bunch of big names graced Noise Pop bills before achieving fame, as past festivals hosted early performances by bands like Spoon, Death Cab for Cutie and Mates [...]
Noise Pop 20: Flaming Lips, Class Actress, Bob Mould, more great additions
The show calendar for Noise Pop 20 has fleshed out nicely. Class Actress - "Weekend" Born To Lose by Sleigh Bells Those are the headliners, but plenty of supporting names have been added to existing bills as well. Chief among [...]
Video: Two Gallants discuss their return, perform in Chicago
There's something a little silly about sharing a video called "Meet Two Gallants" on an SF-centric music blog, but this clip finds the bearded duo discussing their return (and their new music) and performing live in Chicago. You can see more videos from this series here. Two Gallants are touring China and South Korea in November, and the band has been hard at work recording a new album.
