Safe releases 7", remastered EP, and accompanying videos

Berkeley "emotional singer" Safe released a 7-inch vinyl single along with a remastered version of his debut EP last week on Greedhead Music. Safe, aka CF Edley, was once the artistic director for MGMT, so you know he's going to drop some emotional videos for his emotional songs. The video for "Black Satin Living Room" was directed by Brandon Tauszik, who also directed Antwon's outstanding "Living Every Dream" video. A video for "Treason", which is a bonus track on his EP release, follows. Safe will be playing a free show at Treasure Island on Sunday night with Two Gallants and [...]

Review & Photos: Two Gallants, Akron/Family, & Future Twin at The Fillmore, 2/2/13

Two Gallants returned to The Fillmore last Saturday night for the first time since December 2008, marking a beautiful and emotional triumph following the band's slow ascent out of the ashes left by their first six years, three studio records, and early nonstop touring. Playing for nearly two hours before a sold-out hometown crowd at the legendary San Francisco auditorium, band members Adam Stephens and Tyson Vogel appeared completely in sync and at ease, filling the room with their raucous brand of folk rock, thanking their families, friends, and fans for their continued support, and even joking with the crowd [...]

Listen to Two Gallants perform on Live 105's 'Soundcheck'

Two Gallants stopped by Live 105’s Sunday-night indie/local music program, Soundcheck, on August 26, to chat with DJ Aaron Axelsen and treat listeners to an in-studio performance of a cut off their new album, The Bloom and the Blight. After taking about two years off from playing together — a much needed break, which gave drummer Tyson Vogel and guitarist/vocalist Adam Stephens plenty of time to get their minds right — the vagabond duo are back with more tales of waywardness, rambling, broken hearts and self-medicating. Vogel and Stephens, who have known each other since childhood, told Aaron they were [...]

Mixtape: Songs to accompany your Woodyspotting

Lauded director Woody Allen and his film crew descended upon San Francisco recently to begin work on an upcoming movie, giving rise to the sport of Woodyspotting. Here's how it works: San Francisco residents take to Twitter to report on Woody's latest filming location. Simple, right? As a tribute to the acclaimed filmmaker, we've compiled a collection of songs inspired by his often oddball, but nonetheless illustrious, film career. (Note: you’ll have to be logged in to Spotify to enjoy it) 1. Bhi Bhiman, "Equal In My Tea": From SF troubadour Bhi Bhiman comes a pitch-perfect example of how Allen's [...]

Two Gallants – "My Love Won't Wait"

Oh hey, San Francisco, Two Gallants are a-comin'. Yes, for Outside Lands, plus an Outside Lands night show at Rickshaw stop, but also with a brand-new, awfully promising sounding album, The Bloom and the Blight, out September 4 on ATO Records. This is the first release from the San Francisco duo in five years. And they're back with something of a vengeance from the sound of it. While the previously released single "Broken Eyes" spoke to the group's folk and blues-tinged past, this new single, "My Love Won't Wait" has a harder, grungier, raw-garage-rock sound. Per a statement from the [...]
