Freak out with Twin Steps, White Cloud and Wild Wild Wets for FREE

The lovely folks of Commune are hosting the May edition of their monthly show series tonight, and they've invited some Commune alumni, Twin Steps and San Diego's Wild Wild Wets, as well as San Francisco's White Cloud to play Elbo Room for your listening pleasure. Anyone who's seen Twin Steps knows the Oakland-based outfit puts on a wild show, usually focused on vocalist Drew Pearson's strained performances, the centerpiece of the group's garage R&B, so if you're looking for some manic energy to color your Wednesday, these guys have plenty to go around. Plague Songs by Twin Steps Holding down the soundscape before the main event, White Cloud will be adding their Krautrock-flavored [...]

An Oakland invasion brought to you by Twin Steps, Meat Market, MOM, Ssun Prairie

The day has come. Oakland is (kind of) taking over San Francisco. On April 9, a mostly Oakland-comprised lineup of "difficult" punks Twin Steps, surf pop group Meat Market, experimental solo act MOM, and Ssun Prairie will be playing at Bottom of the Hill. Twin Steps is a band off Oakland-based label and store, 1-2-3-4 Go! Records. The sample-driven act bounces between being soulful and zany, with the perfect amount of angst thrown in for good measure. https://soundcloud.com/twinsteps/son-of-sam Also boasting an Oakland pedigree is Meat Market - a band that blends surf, punk and pop to create breezy tunes sometimes filled [...]

First ever Bay Area Record Label Fair (B.A.R.F.) hits Thee Parkside

Don't let anyone tell you any differently - the San Francisco Bay Area has some amazing record labels. That's why the coming first annual Bay Area Record Label Fair (humorously referred to by its respective acronym - B.A.R.F.) is a big deal. Bringing together some of the bigger names in Bay Area record labels - from Polyvinyl to Alternative Tentacles - as well as many smaller ones, B.A.R.F. will feature merchandise from each of these labels and a raffle ($5 to enter) with some great prizes. Mixtape: Fourteen of the Bay Area's Best Record Labels (Podcast #325)

http://media.libsyn.com/media/thebaybridged/Record_Labels_Mix.mp3 Download: Mixtape: The Bay Area's Best Record Labels (Podcast #325) It's conventional wisdom nowadays that bands no longer need record labels to release music into the world. Still, it would be foolish to think that labels no longer matter. A label association can be a critical stamp of approval for potential new fans; the best labels build audiences' trust to the point that they'll support new artists even before hearing them. All of this is to say nothing, of course, of the distribution services labels can offer, and any financial or booking support they might also provide. In recent [...]

Listen to Twin Steps' new 'Plague Songs' 7"

Sample-driven pop band Twin Steps has teamed up with the similarly Oakland-based 1-2-3-4 Go! Records for two upcoming releases: the new Plague Songs 7", and a cassette called Double Feature that collects the songs from the 7" along with the band's Serial Parade EP. Listen to the new 7" in its entirety below, then catch the group on its U.S. tour, which, appropriately enough, begins and ends in the East Bay. Twin Steps "Plague Songs" by Twin Steps Upcoming Twin Steps Live Dates: WED 7/24 - Oakland, CA @ The Uptown w/ Creepers + B. Hamilton + Coldtergeist THUR 7/25 [...]

Not content to merely party on Halloween? Go to Hallorager at Thee Parkside!

If you'd rather RAGE than merely party on Halloween, this one's for you: Hallorager at Thee Parkside. It should be a pretty cool night. For starters, four Bay Area bands will be masquerading as some of their favorite punk pioneers for the night and playing all covers. Glitter Wizard will go back to their roots as The Seeds, Twin Steps will be spasming as The Cramps, Meat Market will hopefully not defecate on the stage as they interpret their favorite G.G. & The Jabbers tunes, and The Parmesans will be working out The Kinks. But that's not all! No, for [...]

Davis music festival Operation: Restore Maximum Freedom returns for twelfth installment

As a UC Davis alumnus, I'm always proud to promote the vibrant underground music scene in Davis, CA. Run primarily by the local college radio station KDVS 90.3FM, the city lights up every week with house shows by bands playing diverse versions of strange, noisy, alt-everything. Often very few of the students present have even heard the band — but it's still worth it to go to the show, grab a 40 oz of Miller Lite and join the ear-splitting, sweaty, living room mosh pit and then waltz outside and have a cigarette with your friends. What San Franciscans gain [...]
