Swoon worthy folksters The Wild Reeds hit Leo’s tonight

About a month ago while inside of the historic Hyde Street Studios, I witnessed the ladies of The Wild Reeds make an entire Sofar crowd go gape-mouth. As is the Sofar way, the mini-set was all acoustic, and even without two of their band members the presence and charm of The Wild Reeds was staggering. Tonight, drummer Nick Jones and bassist Nick Phakpiseth will be rounding out the full band while they headline Leo's in Oakland's Temescal neighborhood. Fittingly, creators of The Wild Reeds, Kinsey Lee on vocals and banjo and Sharon Silva on vocals and guitar, met while both attending a Lisa Hannigan concert (side [...]

Mixtape: Spotlight on San Francisco Singer-Songwriters

http://media.libsyn.com/media/thebaybridged/SF_Songwriters_2015_Mix.mp3 Download: Mixtape: Spotlight on San Francisco Singer-Songwriters (Podcast #361) It's not entirely clear why a remarkable new wave of singer-songwriters has begun to emerge in the San Francisco Bay Area recently, but we certainly aren't complaining. Other genres may fall more in and out of vogue, but a wide array of local songwriting talents influenced by folk, rock, blues, pop, and psych are performing regularly in places like Viracocha, Doc's Lab, and The Chapel, and banding together for showcases like the Fog City Songwriters series of quarterly events. While veteran performers like Lia Rose and The Sam Chase regularly [...]

Travis Hayes to release new EP “Love Songs”

Though Travis Hayes's last full-length record Young Daze isn't even a year old yet, the singer-songwriter already has a new batch of songs ready for release. It's a short and bittersweet three-track EP fittingly entitled Love Songs, a stripped down collection full of gorgeous harmonies, aching acoustic arrangements and a cello part that'll tear at your heartstrings. The album is a straightforward reflection on love, that force of nature that has mystified poets, artists and musicians for centuries. Travis tackles the subject matter with a sort of bruised honesty, attempting to make sense of all the conflicting feelings associated with it: joy, pain, [...]

Giveaway: The Lower 48 head to Slim’s on Thursday with LA’s Branches and more

I know, I know - it's tough. If you're anything like me, then at least once a week you flop onto the nearest mattress after work still in a jacket, shoes, and mittens, and hibernate hard. You shuffle out, make yourself some comfort food à la Kraft, and hunker down for anti-social bliss. But listen up. The Lower 48, Branches, Joshua Cook & The Key of Now, and Travis Hayes and The Young Daze all want to serenade you at Slim's this Thursday. You could stare at a screen at home (after staring at a screen at work) OR you could let truly talented [...]

Travis Hayes releases new music video for “Teen Haze”

Travis Hayes, the Bay Area singer-songwriter who has been treading through the national scene, is back on the radar with another release. This time, it’s a video for his track “Teen Haze” off of his album Young Daze. The video follows the youthful antics of a bunch of teenagers. They’re drinking, they’re smoking, and they’re out causing trouble and falling in love - illustrating a characterization of the typical teenage night. Hayes’ track plays over the entire scenario in a script-like manner. One boy second-guesses a decision and then decides to do it all accompanied by the lines “Say good [...]

Premiere: Travis Hayes releases music video for “Bath Salts”

Just a PSA, folks: don't take bath salts. Instead, check out this video ABOUT bath salts (we all remember what happened in Florida, right?) from Bay Area singer-songwriter Travis Hayes. The video features two men, one with a bag of, what appears to be, bath salts, and another man that is chasing him. The entire scene is in slow motion, creating this eerie, dramatic feeling set to the backdrop of Hayes' song "Bath Salts." The video ends, more or less, how you expect it to, and captures a 30-second moment, slowed down to about 2 minutes. The song, a classic indie [...]

Ghost & Gale, City Tribe, and Travis Hayes storm Wood Shoppe

Wood Shoppe, for those uninitiated, is a free monthly concert series every first Tuesday night at Brick & Mortar. This upcoming Tuesday will feature an all-local swarm of familiar faces playing indie-folk / heart-on-sleeve rock & roll, beginning with SF's Travis Hayes. You may know Travis from his recent string of shows on both sides of the bay, playing in support of his summer-released debut LP, Young Daze. Heard best with a tumbler of whiskey in hand, it's a charming coming-of-age album, and word on the street is that he'll have a crazy music video for "Bath Salts" coming soon. Or you may know him as the newly [...]

Interview/Premiere: Travis Hayes breaks through his ‘Young Daze’

Travis Hayes is not a new name in the San Francisco music community. Many know him from his run as the booker at Thee Parkside, or maybe for his new gig setting up shows at Neck of the Woods, an Inner Richmond venue that he's helped resurrect from its Rockit Room days. With the release of his debut album, Young Daze, he will, for the first time on a full-length record, expose his singer/songwriter core, the fuel behind his career on the business side of the music industry. "I've always wanted to do music," explains Travis. "Music's always been my first passion, but [...]
