Halloween is coming, and so are the tribute bands
Halloween really brings something out of the Bay Area's local bands, because there are a ton of Halloween-themed shows happening this week. But while some groups may throw in a cover or two, or wear costumes on stage, others are going the extra mile and performing full tribute sets celebrating great artists. Tribute bands, as it turns out, likely get a bad rap most of the year because the bands they're celebrating aren't very good; when the right tributes are presented, they sound pretty appealing. Here are five tribute band shows to consider this week. Any other great tribute shows [...]
Mixtape: 12 Original Holiday Songs from Local Artists (Podcast #323)
Mixtape and accompanying text by Russell Jelinek http://media.libsyn.com/media/thebaybridged/2013_SF_Holiday_Mix.mp3 Download: Mixtape: 12 Original Holiday Songs from Local Artists (Podcast #323) Last week, Slate lamented the lack of modern Christmas classics available, claiming Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas is You." While mainstream music may lack holiday classics, our local indie scene is always cranking out a wide variety of Christmas hits every year. In this mixtape, we have twelve ALL ORIGINAL holiday hits from local acts, ranging from the tender perfection of Ash Reiter's "Christmas in California" to Jingle Boyz (aka Adam Healton) laying down some, uh, irreverent rhymes on [...]
Trainwreck Riders – "Gypsy Stealin'"
We previously interviewed Trainwreck Riders about their new album, Ghost Yards, which comes out next week, and now here's a download of the band's new single, "Gypsy Stealin'." The SF country-rock band performs on Halloween at Bottom of the Hill.
Interview: Trainwreck Riders discuss their forthcoming LP 'Ghost Yards'
The Trainwreck Riders have been kicking out excellent country-rock for nearly a decade, and are now streaming their forthcoming LP Ghost Yards on Bandcamp. The album will be released on vinyl October 20th on 20 Sided Records, and continues their combination of great songwriting and storytelling, tight instrumental breakdowns, and just the right amount of twang. I was able to catch up with the Riders via email to ask them some questions about Ghost Yards. TBB: What have you guys been up to since the release of The Perch? TR: In a lot of ways we have been really trying [...]
Review: 2 shows & 8 bands in 1 night: Kelley Stoltz, UV Race, Total Control, Young Offenders @ Hemlock Tavern; Trainwreck Riders, Pine Box Boys, The Good Luck Thrift Store Outfit, Virgil Shaw @ GAMH 8/27
(Note to the reader: This is an epic tale, long in the telling. If you doubt your mettle, please at least scroll down and check out the respective headliners, who were both rad). Sometimes the music options in this town present such a tasty dilemma. Friday night saw The Ferocious Few at Fort Mason, Cap'n Jazz at Bimbo's, and down in Polk Gulch, two shows too good to pass up. I'm set to cover Kelley Stoltz at the Hemlock, while some of my familiars have committed to hanging with their buddies Trainwreck Riders at the Great American Music Hall. Over [...]
Trainwreck Riders headline GAMH on 8/27/10 + Ticket Giveaway
It feels like a very long time ago at this point, but for the inaugural year of the Treasure Island Music Festival (a.k.a. September 2007), Trainwreck Riders managed to snag one of the coveted opening "local band" slots. They've played Noise Pop and SxSW, they won the SF Guardian 'Goldie' award for Best Local Band, they've toured with the likes of Two Gallants, Langhorne Slim, and the Devil Makes Three . . . etc. It comes as no surprise that the band will be headlining the Great American Music Hall this Friday, August 27th (9pm, $14, all ages). Trainwreck Riders [...]

Noise Pop 2010: Saturday Preview
Saturday is Noise Pop's busiest day, with more events than you can shake a stick at (and who shakes sticks anyways?). Before even getting to the nighttime stuff, three daytime events are all worth noting. Fans of independent crafts and design should swing by the free Pop and Shop at the Verdi Club, while aspiring moguls and music tech geeks should head over to Industry Noise for panels about the state of indie music and networking opportunities galore. If you go to either, though, I'd plan to head out in time to make it to the Brooklyn Vegan-presented Happy Hour [...]
