We paired our favorite local bands with astrological signs

Whether you believe in astrology or not, each zodiac symbol is known for birthing a different personality. Similarly to that of astrology, we’ve noticed a personality with each Bay Area band that comes across our desk. Read on to figure out what zodiac sign your favorite Bay Area talents are most like. December Playlist: Best of the Bay 2019

December is here and that can mean only one thing: lists. Gift shopping lists. Baking lists. Best-of-the-Year lists. You name it, it probably exists in bulleted form for the season. Chalk it up to our collective desire to make order out of a messy world. We know there are a ton of choices when it comes to your yearly music digests from top national music critics. This list is emphatically not that. Instead, we at The Bay Bridged figured we'd assemble our local favorites. The ones that made us bounce across the dance floor, cry, and feel alive. This collection of 25 [...]

Tia Nomore brings “Nu Chain” to OTR Sessions

Tia Nomore is about to reach a higher altitude when her upcoming album Level arrives later this fall. And if the rest of her new, upgraded sound is anything like "Nu Chain" and "Terminator Froze," singles off of the project, this firecracker rapper is guaranteed to keep the rest of 2019 lit. But before Level drops on Text Me Records, Tia teamed up with the OTR Sessions to bring a live rendition of "Nu Chain," filmed at Different Fur Studios. With the Sauce Band behind her back, Tia turns up the funk and smoothes out this payday anthem.

Bay Area’s own Tia Nomore, Ricky Lake, Wade08 to back YBN Cordae at New Parish

Photo by Amy Lombard OK, look: We love YBN Cordae. The North Carolina rapper possesses a bonafide pen — he fired legit shots to all the old heads in J. Cole's "1985" diss and is a lyrical beacon among what some may call a misguided, if not misunderstood, rap generation. To have YBN Cordae hit the Bay so soon after his Chance the Rapper-assisted song, "Bad Idea" drop is a treat, and we swear it. BUT — let's not ignore the other mic wizards supporting him tonight. DUCKWRTH, a Bay Area-affiliate by way of south central LA, released his EP [...]

Mixtape: The Bay Area’s Standout Hip Hop and R&B Producers

This episode first ran on KQED.org. Download: Mixtape: The Bay Area's Standout Hip Hop and R&B Producers (Podcast #426) The Bay Area's vibrant hip hop and R&B scenes include a wealth of talented MCs and singers, but it's often easy to forget the important behind-the-scenes role that music producers play in crafting great songs. A skilled producer doesn't just provide a instrumental backdrop for an artist to showcase their craft; instead, the best producers elevate their artists, adding emphasis that highlights a song's melodic immediacy or depth that demands repeat listens. This mixtape showcases a dozen songs from local hip [...]

CupcakKe, Tia NoMore, Green Ova cover all angles of rap at Eli’s this weekend

Chicago and Oakland are in the building at Eli's Mile High Club this Friday, bringing into town rap's Queen of Slurpers, CupcakKe. The 20-year-old MC from Parkway Gardens (home of Chief Keef and Lil Reese) has carved a nice fanbase for herself - hence, "Slurpers" — off of what she calls her "freaky" tracks. Songs such as her breakthrough track "Vagina," "Deep Throat," and "Juicy Coochie" from her 2015 debut Cum Cake draw your attention as an unapologetic raunch-fest riot. But as true Slurpers know, CupcakKe's explicitness is just the tip of the iceberg. Delve deeper into her catalog and [...]

Mixtape: Over a dozen of the Bay Area’s best new and emerging rap artists

While artists like Iamsu and G-Eazy are among the latest Bay ambassadors to have gained mainstream attention, many exciting and relatively unknown MCs are emerging out of the San Francisco Bay Area. This mixtape collects 13 songs showcasing some of the best emerging rappers from the Bay. As you'll hear [...]
