Doseone – "Last Life"
Doseone - "Last Life" One of Anticon's multi-operational co-founders, Doseone, finds time in between 13 & Gold, Themselves, Subtle, and other projects to release a solo album next month. G Is For Deep comes out May 29 on Anticon, of course, and the first glimpse of it premiered last week on Stereogum in "Last Life." The track shows a deviation from the usual breathy, high-pitched rapping to a soft-spoken, poppier feel akin to The Notwist. Album art and tracklisting are after the jump. TRACKLIST: 01 “Dancing X” 02 “Last Life” 03 “I Fell” 04 “Thy Pattern” 05 “Therapist This” 06 [...]

Themselves’ CrownsDown out this week
Themselves TV Pt. 2 from anticon. on Vimeo. Themselves - "You Ain't It" Seemingly, the lives of rapping duo Themselves never include a dull moment. This past Tuesday marked the release of their third album CrownsDown on Anticon Records. In other exciting Themselves news, did you know Doseone teaches freestyling to youth in Oakland? This XLR8R video gets in depth about the Wednesday night class, with cuts of Doseone conducting the cyphering and Jel handling beats. Voting commences for ’09 SF Weekly Music Awards
The nominations are up for SF Weekly’s music awards – vote now! Among the nominees include many of our fondly covered artists: Two Sheds, Themselves and Emily Jane White, to name a few. But one category that might present a struggle to our readers would be "indie/rock/pop," mandating a choice between Girls, Morning Benders, Sleepy Sun and Downer Party all competing. Voting closes a month from today (Oct 14 , 3pm), with the winners being announced the following day at the music awards party at Ruby Skye.
Themselves + Odd Nosdam deliver a glitchy energy @ BotH 8/1
The Odd Nosdam/Themselves show last Saturday at Bottom of the Hill was an awesome blend of ambient tunes and hip hop. Local artist Bre'r led the crowd easily into Odd Nosdam's set with spaced out, almost drone-like beats. Odd Nosdam's set was all distorted rhythm, repetitious breaks and bass heavy enough to disrupt bodily functions. As Jel joined in for the second half of Odd's sonic acrobatics, things sounded more frenetic. Nosdam was all soundscapes and obscured samples, no spectacle and no frills. Themselves - "Rapping 4 Money Feat. Why?, cLOUDDEAD" Themselves represent the flipside of Jel's solo music. The [...]
