The Y Axes premiere remix of single “How We Begin”
A little over a year from when San Francisco dreamy pop band the Y Axes blessed our ears with their second single “How We Begin,” the band has released two remixes of this upbeat track with Studio Dad. In reflecting on the current demonstrations for the Black Lives Matter movement and the need for systemic change in our nation, the band recognizes that there is still a lot to be learned and achieved in order to make radical changes, and that we are just beginning. Frontwoman Alexi Belchere comments that “the song itself is about feeling powerless and panicked in [...]

The Y Axes release “Get Away,” announce upcoming LP
Picture this: It’s the first day of your sophomore year of high school. You wake up in your twin bed and stumble into the shower. Your binder says “school sux” with those funny S’s, and you REALLY hope you get a class with that one person. The Y Axes’ latest single “Get Away” is probably what’s playing in your earbuds while your parents drive you to school. And even if those years are in the rear view now, it’s never a bad time to revisit them through the power of pop-punk. Alexi Belchere’s vocals are glimmers of moonlight over the [...]
The Y Axes’ new single ‘Moon’ glows brightly
(photo: Dave McMahon) No need to look up at the sky tonight for the new single by the Y Axes, because "Moon" is already up. Following the heels of "How We Begin," "Moon" is the second single from the San Francisco-based space-pop band’s upcoming album, No Waves, set to release on June 6. Vocalist Alexi Belchere describes a handful of songs in the new album as following a similar theme of self-doubt and fear of the unknown, while "Moon" stands out to embrace those fears. “In the song I say ‘I can see there’s nothing wrong with my heart / [...]
The Y Axes unveil new single “How We Begin”
San Francisco-based space-pop/post-Americana rockers the Y Axes have debuted the second single, "How We Begin," from their forthcoming album, No Waves. The band's lead singer, Alexi Rose Belchere, reflects on the sentiments behind "How We Begin": "The song is about living in a hopeless time where it feels like I’m drowning in a constant feed of information and being suffocated by a paralyzing fear of the future. It reminds me that fear of the unknown needs to be transcended in order to carry on. It’s basically about how the world sucks and I can't get absorbed by it if I'm [...]

The Y Axes release a new pop-punk single and music video
San Francisco-based indie space-pop band the Y Axes recently released a lively pop-punk single, "Empty Space" that will encourage you to bring your friends together for a late-night living room dance party. "Empty Space" is the first candy-coated taste from their forthcoming LP, No Waves, which will be available early next year. Seven years ago, the Y Axes formed at a space-prom themed birthday party, and in their video for "Empty Space" they've brought this theme around full-circle, even spiking the party punch with their seemingly lighthearted, though deeply-felt, music to encourage the crowd to release and dance. Check the [...]
