Video: The Velvet Teen, “Parallel Universes”

The Velvet Teen's musical output has been somewhat sporadic over the last few years, but that doesn't mean they haven't been busy. The Petaluma veterans dropped their first single since 2015's All Is Illusory last Friday via BrooklynVegan. Entitled "Parallel Universes," the track draws heavily on the band's pop side, allowing Judah Nagler's ethereal voice float upon a sea of synthesizers. Despite the restrained tempo, drummer Casey Deitz frantically ramps up the tension on the song's final minute, pushing it through like a marathon runner crashing through the finish line. The video, directed by Brady Baltezore, is pretty fun to [...]

Live This Month: August 2015 — an audio guide to upcoming SF concerts

http://media.libsyn.com/media/thebaybridged/LTM_August_2015.mp3 Download: Live This Month: August 2015 (Podcast #368) In Live This Month, we sample some of the great local and out-of-town bands performing in the coming month in the San Francisco Bay Area. The Outside Lands Festival is without a doubt the biggest local music event this month, and with good reason, given a well-curated mix of big names and bands-on-the-rise appearing over three days in Golden Gate Park. Whether you're Outside Lands-bound or not, however, there are plenty of other compelling concerts this month, including a slew of shows celebrating new releases from local bands. Dirty Ghosts' new [...]

Review & Photos: Twilight Sad, Velvet Teen, Micah P. Hinson at the Independent 3/8/12

Last Thursday night (3/8/12) I saw a trio of enjoyable acts at The Independent. It's always nice to go in looking forward to the headliner and being pleasantly surprised by the opening acts. This was the case last Thursday. Micah P. Hinson kicked off the night. I missed most of his set, but I enjoyed the three songs I did catch. I would never have expected an Americana singer-songwriter to be opening for The Twilight Sad, but I appreciated the melancholy and irony of his work. Up next was the Velvet Teen. These local boys have been playing and recording [...]

Listen to The Velvet Teen’s brand new EP, “No Star”

Sonoma County's The Velvet Teen have just digitally put out their first release in about four years, a four-song EP called No Star. The band's now a quartet -- Judah Nagler, Casey Deitz, Matthew Izen and Josh Staples -- and the new songs feel louder than their past stuff, but still plenty catchy. It's difficult for me to even try to think about this band in any critical capacity, so clouded is my perspective by nostalgia for one of the first local acts I ever truly adored. Instead, here's the new EP in its entirety: The band's No Star release [...]

The Velvet Teen, The Ghost @ Thee Parkside 8/28

Photos by James Sanderson Last Friday night was hot. The inside of Thee Parkside was significantly hotter, with the exception of a fan above the doorway trying its best to keep everybody at a comfortable level. Things would soon be getting even hotter, as San Jose's For The Win opened the show with an energetic performance and San Francisco's Drowning With Out Anchors, featuring a new member in Dan of OLEHOLE/ex-Burial Year, blazed through songs from their latest album, You Can Never Go Home Again. The highlights of the night, however, were the reunion of The Ghost and the headlining [...]
