Premiere: Listen to Phono del Sol act The Tambo Rays’ new track “Who Are You”

Photo by Laura Mason The addition of The Tambo Rays to this year's Phono del Sol Music Festival lineup could not be more perfect – the band's psychedelic-laced chillpop sound is the ideal soundtrack for a sunny day in Potrero del Sol Park (or any park for that matter). A sense of openness pervades the quartet's songs, and their new track "Who Are You" – which we are happy to premiere today on The Bay Bridged – is no different. Starting out as a bedroom recording project of multi-instrumentalist Brian DaMert, The Tambo Rays eventually coalesced into a quartet with [...]

This month's episode of our Artist Spotlight podcast series -- featuring live-in-the-studio performances and interviews with emerging Bay Area performers -- showcases The Tambo Rays. Brian DaMert had previously played in other bands, but when he wanted to start performing some solo songs he'd been recording at home, he formed The Tambo Rays with his sister, Sara, Greg Sellin, and Bob Jakubs. Over the past few years, the band's energetic and melodic indie pop has established them as a local group on the rise, and [...]

WATERS opens up Noise Pop 2014 with final residency show

Photos by T.J. Mimbs Monday night, WATERS kicked off Noise Pop 2014 with the final performance of his month-long residency at Brick & Mortar. Despite having played the same venue for the last three Monday nights in a row, the band, led by Van Pierszalowski and showing  zero signs of wear and tear, gave the audience an evocative show powered by often frenzied emotion. Before the main event, The Tambo Rays treated the audience to half an hour of its chill-pop tunes. Between familiar songs like "Take That," when keyboardist Sara DaMert take over on lead vocals, replacing her brother Brian DaMert's collected [...]

Best of 2013: Daniel Senter’s 2013 East Bay highlights

I joined The Bay Bridged staff as a Production Associate last spring, and it has been endlessly enjoyable to be pulled deeper into the sonic recesses of the Bay Area’s various scenes by TBB. As an Oakland resident, my Best of list just happened to trend toward the Bay’s warmer side, so I went with it. A few 2013 East Bay highlights, in no particular order: Glenn Jackson – Morning Swim EP The sounds are bright, breathy, and totally groovy. This three song solo debut from Oakland’s Glenn Jackson is house music to be enjoyed outside – whether on a [...]

Video Premiere: The Tambo Rays – "Rest Your Mind In The Sky"

The Tambo Rays' nonstop eccentric carnival rolls on with their video for "Rest Your Mind In The Sky", a track we premiered back in July. According to Sara DaMert, she and her brother Brian wanted to take their audience on "another journey though their collective imagination," filming this attempt to summon extraterrestrial life forms entirely on their iPhones with a taped-on fisheye lens and using handmade prisms invented by their father in an Oakland warehouse in 1972. The prisms aren't the only DaMert family creation that makes an appearance in the video. "Alien Autopsy", the board game being played by [...]

Video Premiere: The Tambo Rays throw a backyard party in "Take That"

"This video was shot in my backyard in Oakland at my 25th birthday party," recalls Sara "Sonic" DaMert of The Tambo Rays about the band's video for "Take That", a track we premiered back in August when it had the slightly more streetwise title "Take Dat". "I asked renaissance woman and dear friend Katie Wheeler-Dubin to film the festivities, just like our parents did when we were kids. I wanted to have a clearer record to look back on than champagne-infused memories." It wasn't until after the party that DaMert realized the footage's potential for use as a video. "The [...]

Review: Porcelain Raft, The Tambo Rays @ Bottom of the Hill, 9/23/13

I once read Porcelain Raft's lead singer Mauro Remiddi described as an "indie pop old soul," but last night at Bottom of the Hill I had completely forgotten. I knew Porcelain Raft as a bedroom pop-project and that's about it. So you can imagine my surprise when Remiddi stepped onto the stage, a confident mid-30s man with a two-piece backing band joining him. The rest of the evening was spent learning a lot more about Remiddi and his band, Porcelain Raft. For starters, the band's latest album Permanent Signal practically smothers itself with Beach House vibes, but, in the flesh, Remiddi's [...]

Premiere: The Tambo Rays switch it up on "Take Dat"

The Tambo Rays' summer of fun continues with a new single "Take Dat", and we are proud to premiere the track here at The Bay Bridged. "Take Dat" – which the band premiered live at the Hemlock back in February – features band member Sara DaMert (aka Sara Sonic) stepping out from behind her usual spot on keyboards and taking over vocal duties with a Blondie-esque, hip-hop-influenced sneer that provides just the right contrast to the clean sound of yet another DaMert sibling-crafted pop gem. Listen to "Take Dat" below: The Tambo Rays venture out to the Richmond District [...]
