Premiere: The Stone Foxes (and friends!), “Gimme Some Truth”

We're sending you into the weekend with some new music that has an old message: Vote! You might recognize "Gimme Some Truth" from your parents' record collection: originally recorded by John Lennon in 1971, the Stone Foxes got ahold of it as a live song, featuring a trade-off between vocalists Shannon Koehler and Vince Dewald. But when time came to record it, they called on a cavalcade of Bay Area music stars: Kelly McFarling, Ziek McCarter, Ben Morrison, and AhSa-Ti Nu. The result is a pretty spot-on cover with a Foxy twist — a slightly quicker pace and a bluesy [...]

The Stone Foxes bring ‘Visalia’ back home this Friday

(photo: Staci DeGagne) The Stone Foxes are back on the Pacific Coast, enjoying an extended break from the rigorous demands of their 37 dates on their GiganTOUR tour. The tour wormed its way around the country for the last two months and on Friday, November 17, they hit the stage for a hometown headliner at the Independent. Two weeks later, to start December, they prelude a PNW run at the Catalyst Atrium in Santa Cruz. Touring behind their first new release in two years, the five-song EP is titled Visalia after the middle-of-nowhere town between Fresno and Bakersfield that the band [...]

Hometown Throwdown: Two SF favorites team up this Friday at The Indy

On Friday, November 18, two of San Francisco's local favorites will team up for an evening of music that's one part blues, one part surf, and two parts up-and-at-'em rock. Hot Flash Heat Wave will warm the crowd up. A hit earlier this year at our Phono Del Sol Music and Food Festival, check out the video below and hear their surf-rock of the future for yourself. Raucous rock and roll group The Stone Foxes will be headlining the evening, announcing on November 11 that the concert will be focused against hate. The philanthropic band will also be going out of [...]

The Stone Foxes release video for “Dying Star”

It's a story most of us can relate to: a true spaceman stuck at a dead-end space job until he's had enough and breaks out his counterpart from his equally terrible space job, the both of them riding off towards the good old days and stopping at space Tijuana along the way. The Stone Foxes understand. Our raucous rockers continue to remind us about their musical contributions from 2015's Twelve Spells with a new video for the battle cry of "Dying Star." Having ignited the promotional machine almost a full year early, the Foxes released a track a month until [...]

The Stone Foxes’ Shannon Koehler plays San Francisco word association with us

Photo by Jon Ching The Stone Foxes are about as old as The Bay Bridged — 9 years old, to be exact, whereas The Bay Bridged turns an even 10 this year. In that way, it made perfect sense to ask the SF rock 'n' roll institution to headline our birthday party at The Rickshaw Stop on January 30th. In preparation, we asked Stone Fox Shannon Koehler to play a round of San Francisco word association with us, in tribute to the city they've called home since the beginning. San Francisco Word Association with Shannon Koehler of The Stone Foxes [...]

Mixtape: 2015 Highlights from San Francisco Bay Area Indie Music

http://media.libsyn.com/media/thebaybridged/2015_Highlights_Mix.mp3 Download: Mixtape: 2015 Highlights from San Francisco Bay Area Indie Music (Podcast #377) At The Bay Bridged, we always bristle a little at the prospect of attempting to sum up a full year of the local independent music scene in a single retrospective podcast mixtape. Such a challenge is especially difficult in a place like the Bay Area, where year in, year out, a wide variety of talented local musicians release compelling and impressive albums, a great many of which gain acclaim well beyond the Bay's borders. Instead of trying to identify some objective list of the "ten best" [...]

The Unlikely Evolution of the Koehler Brothers

Shannon and Spence Koehler onstage at Great American Music Hall, June 6, 2015 (photo: Jon Ching) It wasn’t long ago that Shannon and Spence Koehler were just two brothers from the boonies. “He was like a little church mouse,” squawks Shannon, talking about his brother Spence’s transformation since the two set out as part of the Stone Foxes, way back in 2007. The two are currently ensconced in a studio in San Rafael with the other Foxes, putting the finishing touches on Twelve Spells, due out in August. “Personality wise, he talks a lot more (now). He’ll go get drinks [...]
