The She’s set to heat up The Independent this week

San Francisco's favorite four-piece garage rockers The She's will be headlining at The Independent this Thursday, January 27. Not long ago, they were featured during our very own Phono Del Sol festival last July. The quartet of guitarist Eva Treadway, drummer Sinclair Riley, bassist Sami Perez, and Hannah Valente on vocals formed in SF in the 7th grade. Since then, their jangly surf-rock and choral-quality harmonies have been on a consistently upward swing. Dreamers by The She's The She's are also a band that often use their platform to encourage women to become involved in the male-dominated realm of music production through [...]

The She’s to have fundraiser for La Casa de las Madres at Phono del Sol

The She's recently informed everyone that they will be having a fundraiser at their merch table during Phono del Sol, all donations go to La Casa de las Madres. La Casa is a nonprofit organization that responds to calls for help from domestic violence victims, of all ages, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. They are an amazing local nonprofit that give abuse survivors the tools to transform their lives, making a much-needed effort to seek to prevent future violence by educating the community and by redefining public perceptions about domestic violence. If you'd like to see a list [...]

Phono del Sol: The She’s will always make you feel better

Just because The She's are not The He's doesn't mean they are a girl band. Yes, they may have started the band when they were still young girls, but these women are more talented and motivated than most "boy" bands that'll only stay together for a couple years (though when it's all boys, we usually just call them bands). When I speak about The She's to others, we talk about how proud we are, how meeting them made us feel included, how meeting them inspired us to be better. Most bands change members constantly, most bands only revolve around one [...]

We’re hosting a live stream with the She’s next week!

We love the She's. Do you love the She's? We hope you love the She's, because we've got some exciting news involving them coming up soon (no, it's not that they're playing Phono del Sol, but that's excites us, too.) Next week, in conjunction with PressureDrop.tv, we will be hosting a live stream of the She's right here on this very site. PressureDrop hosts live streams of concerts from indie artists, played in super-secret, offbeat locations. Seriously, we don't even know where this one is going to take place. Your guess is as good as ours. The She's stream is [...]

Is the San Francisco music scene dead? We search for clues.

Hot Flash Heat Wave at the Rickshaw Stop, January 31, 2016 I recently heard the music scene in San Francisco was dead, and being a writer for a website dedicated to covering the music scene in San Francisco, I was obviously a little concerned. To get to the bottom of this, I went out to find some comments from some members on the scene. But man, it was kind of difficult. I thought I'd start with Chuck Prophet, who at this point should be considered one of the deans of the SF scene (if it still exists). Unfortunately, [...]

Interview: Catching up with surf pop locals The She’s

The She's are Sami Perez, Hannah Valente, Eva Treadway, and Sinclair Riley -- four ladies in their early 20s who've been at it as a band since the seventh grade and have since been an integral part of the San Francisco scene, putting out a steady stream of shimmery surf pop with darker undertones. These days, they're still as busy as ever: They just put out a brilliant single "Cherry Red" on the local label Empty Cellar, who they were just signed to, and are playing a release show this week. We chatted with Sami and Hannah about finding inspiration in [...]

The She’s release “Cherry Red” off upcoming split single

The She's just released “Cherry Red” off a Split 45' from Empty Cellar Records with The Dry Spells. The song starts with some guttural shout-cough type thing. First time I heard it I thought something happened to someone next to me, something that called for immediate attention. This is one of the ways the song will snag you. Like a lot of The She's music, the song is loud, catchy and punctual. The song (and group) is really tight – there's never a doubt on where the song is and where it's going. Three and a halfish minutes of popping [...]
