Since there's no avoiding it, why not embrace it by cranking up some holiday tunes from your favorite Bay Area bands? The Shants launch Kickstarter campaign for ‘Beautiful was the Night’

The members of The Shants have been playing together for a year, and to celebrate, they are working to record their debut full-length record. Beautiful was the Night is a title extracted from a Wadsworth poem, Evangeline, and the album itself promises to be a proper representation of the band's classic Americana. The band plans on recording the album starting March 6th at Oakland's Rec Center Studios. To help fund the costs of mastering and duplication, The Shants have launched a Kickstarter campaign, with the goal of raising $1500 by March 8th: For your donation you will receive a mention [...]

Bay Area Christmas music round-up 2010

We've heard these songs a thousand times before, but that's just part of their charm. Almost any band can contribute something new to these classics, and will perhaps create your new favorite version along the way. The Shants, Westwood & Willow, Ash Reiter, BLAMMOS, and A B & the Sea (featuring the SHE's) have done their part this Christmas season, covering the likes of "Please Come Home for Christmas," "Frosty the Snowman," and more (the BLAMMOS tune is an original, however). The Shants play debut Oakland show at the New Parish 5/19

Last we heard from The Shants, they were opening for Il Gato and embarking on a mini tour of California. Now, the band is scheduled to headline at the New Parish for their Oakland debut this Wednesday, May 19th (8:00 pm, $5/advance, $8/door, 18+). The Shants - "My Town is Underwater" After Wednesday's show, the Shants will be embarking on a summer tour, and heading back to the studio to record a follow-up to their EP, Russian River Songs. Calafia and Dave Smallen join the bill, rounding out an evening already steeped in classic folk.
