A “Fresh & Onlys Divorce Reunion” is at Night Light tonight

Grace Sings Sludge (Grace Cooper) and Earth Girl Helen Brown (Heidi Alexander) have been a part of some great San Francisco bands, namely The Sandwitches and The Fresh & Onlys. Tonight they're sharing the stage with their old bandmate, Fresh and Onlys' front man Tim Cohen for a great cozy show at the Night Light in Oakland. Of primary importance tonight is the release of Grace Sings Sludge's LP Life with Dick, out now on vinyl via Empty Cellar Records. Cooper's voice is always strong and alluring, yet very dark on Life with Dick. I picture her confidently delivering her [...]

Live This Month: August 2015 — an audio guide to upcoming SF concerts

http://media.libsyn.com/media/thebaybridged/LTM_August_2015.mp3 Download: Live This Month: August 2015 (Podcast #368) In Live This Month, we sample some of the great local and out-of-town bands performing in the coming month in the San Francisco Bay Area. The Outside Lands Festival is without a doubt the biggest local music event this month, and with good reason, given a well-curated mix of big names and bands-on-the-rise appearing over three days in Golden Gate Park. Whether you're Outside Lands-bound or not, however, there are plenty of other compelling concerts this month, including a slew of shows celebrating new releases from local bands. Dirty Ghosts' new [...]

The Sandwitches announce new (and final) release, Our Toast

The Sandwitches have been quiet for the past few years; in fact, there hasn't been much action from the spooky garage group since 2012-ish. As we continue to plow our way through 2015, the Sandwitches have emerged with some new music. And just when you might be getting excited about the band's return to the Bay Area scene, there is also the sad news that (according to Gorilla vs. Bear) this will be the band's final release. Entitled Our Toast, this 9-song release from the Sandwitches will be out on June 9th via Empty Cellar Records and is currently available [...]

Video: The Sandwitches – "Heaviest Head in the West"

Check out the new video for “Heaviest Head in the West,” the darkest track off of The Sandwitches’ 2011 LP Mrs. Jones’ Cookies. The video, directed by Danish filmmaker Ada Bligaard Søby (who has also been responsible for Ty Segall and Thee Oh Sees videos), has an overdubbed narration about the pre-housing bubble collapse of 2007 and the rise of cocaine use and prostitution among Wall Street elites. Meanwhile, images of a call girl in lingerie dancing seductively or walking down a hotel hallway flicker among vintage home movies of her laughing and going about her day, give new meaning [...]

Everyone’s favorite spooky songstresses, The Sandwitches, will play at the Brick & Mortar Music Hall on Thursday, April 12th, with Deep Time (Yellow Fever) and Muscle Drum (Rob Spector from Bronze). If you’re not familiar with their bewitching, old-timey, falsetto-speckled sound, where lovelorn americana meets garage, it would behoove you to check out their two excellent LPs—2009’s How to Make Ambient Sadcake and last year’s Mrs. Jones’ Cookies—before getting to the show. Or at least listen to the A-side from their latest offering, The Pearl 7-inch, which exemplifies the trio's sad/experimental bent, below. Now buy tickets, which are $10, here, [...]

Dusty Stax/Bold Italic Winter Dance Formal Party, featuring garage rock supergroup (12/10/11)

The Verdi Club will be hosting fantastic events two Saturdays in a row. This Saturday, December 3rd, will feature the Bay Brewed (sorry, couldn't resist). And next Saturday, December 10th, Dusty Stax and the Bold Italic have put together a very special event in the spirit of the holiday. This Winter Formal Dance will feature classy attire and a plethora of local garage rock musicians: Over the summer, Dusty Stax's "Let Her Dance" took San Francisco back in a time machine for a huge celebration of '60s soul. Guests donned their vintage best and packed the Verdi Club as local [...]

As the trio kicks off a European tour, The Sandwitches have also released two new music videos. In "In the Garden," from Mrs. Jones’ Cookies, the trio takes the stage at Esta Noche for a mood-lit, choreographed dance performance. The fun animated video for "Benny’s Memory Palace," which you can watch below, accompanies the B-side to the band's new 7". Karaoke fans: when was the last time an indie video had "following the bouncing ball" lyrics included? (via Gorilla vs. Bear)
