Mixtape: Songs to accompany your Woodyspotting

Lauded director Woody Allen and his film crew descended upon San Francisco recently to begin work on an upcoming movie, giving rise to the sport of Woodyspotting. Here's how it works: San Francisco residents take to Twitter to report on Woody's latest filming location. Simple, right? As a tribute to the acclaimed filmmaker, we've compiled a collection of songs inspired by his often oddball, but nonetheless illustrious, film career. (Note: you’ll have to be logged in to Spotify to enjoy it) 1. Bhi Bhiman, "Equal In My Tea": From SF troubadour Bhi Bhiman comes a pitch-perfect example of how Allen's [...]

Review & Photos: Temescal Street Cinema returns with Will Sprott! PLUS Guantanamo Baywatch, Chuckleberries and Courtney & the Crushers at the White Horse AND the art of Max Nordile 6/14/12

Portland's Guantanamo Baywatch closed out a perfectly orchestrated Thursday evening in Berkeley. It all began at 8pm, opening night of Temescal Street Cinema, where Will Sprott played a soulful set to a crowd of unprepared film buffs. The set woulda sounded just right in a smoky little night club circa 1959, but it sounded pretty damn good on Telegraph Ave. Although Will's band The Mumlers are awful quiet lately, Will is playin' around town fairly regularly. He will be in SF on June 21st for BAMM TV. It's free but you should RSVP here. August 20th he plays the Redwood [...]

Two Gallants announce two Independent shows on September tour

To those who watched tickets for Two Gallants' shows at Bottom of the Hill last spring sell out like they were Sigur Rós concerts, don't be bummed. The duo announced two new shows at The Independent, September 23-24 (tickets on sale now) as part of a North American tour. Neither San Francisco show is sold out yet, and while the entire tour includes The Mumlers, the September 24 show does not currently have a supporting act listed. We'll publish details for the San Francisco shows as they come, and full tour dates are after the jump. Sept. 2011 US TOUR: [...]

In the spirit of the upcoming Treasure Island Music Festival October 16-17, The Bay Bridged had a chat with Will Sprott, frontman of The Mumlers. The San Jose-based band is one of the festival's handful of local acts, and will open the festival Sunday. Stay tuned for more interviews from this year's artists leading up to the festival. TBB: The Mumlers seem like a group of guys who go way back. Tell me how you know each other, how you got together. Did you all develop you musical tastes together, or did you play horns and listen to jazz and [...]

Photos & Recap: Left Coast Live, San Jose, 6/26/10

Thanks to Anna for pointing out this little known festival in San Jose! The crowd was really small but San Jose's The Mumlers wowed 'em with a sweet Memphis soul sound. What is Yo La Tengo doing here? Excellent versions of "Autumn Sweater" and part of "Little Eyes". Darondo killed it with a Screamin' Jay Hawkins meets Al Green smash. Don't miss him at Stern Grove on August 15th. Gimme some Legs! 83 year-old Big Jay McNeely showed 'em all up, struttin' around like a teenager. The Legendary Stardust Cowboy closed the night with his signature strangeness.

Left Coast Live 2010, June 21-26

The City of San Jose - not necessarily known as a quintessential destination for live music in the Bay Area - now boasts another year of Left Coast Live, a music festival and conference in the southern branch of the Bay.
