First ever all-female lineup hits The Fillmore on Saturday

For the first time in the history of the renowned San Francisco venue The Fillmore, an all-female lineup will take place, featuring local power houses such as Kendra McKinley, The She's, The Hot Toddies, and Isla Vista locals Rainbow Girls. The Rainbow Girls, who are presenting the show and headlining the night, are a folk americana band with gypsy style roots. Their sound is energetic, uplifting and catchy. Their most recent release, The Sound of Light, is a cross between modern indie elements and traditional folk roots. The Hot Toddies, Oakland's beach-indie-pop trio, will be supporting the touring band and bringing their surf [...]

Review & Photos: Allo Darlin’, Hot Toddies, The Tropics deliver pop perfection

The Rickshaw Stop delivered a perfect pop trifecta on Friday night. The UK/Aussie outfit Allo Darlin' ruled the Rickshaw. They started the set with a song from the new album, We Come From The Same Place. It had some killer Crazy Horse guitar riffs that even seemed to surprise the band. I am very partial to debut LPs (and they did play several from theirs, including "The Polaroid Song" and "Silver Dollars"), but they closed the set with a really ecstatic version of "Capricornia" from the second record, Europe, proving it deserves a fresh listen. The band was in a [...]

Health crisis! UK invasion with Allo’ Darlin, Fat White Family, & more at Rickshaw Stop

Allo Darlin' - SXSW 2010 - Cute but deadly Ebola is nothing compared to the health issues going on this month at Rickshaw Stop! This Friday, October 24, it's Allo Darlin'. The ukulele-fueled pop is sweet enough to be an independent risk factor for diabetes. Fear not, the obligatory pogo dance is excellent for your blood pressure. Who better to open but our very own cure-for-what-ails-ya, The Hot Toddies! The Toddies play "sunny beach pop" just right for a cold beer (or a hot toddy). The consumption of alcoholic beverages can lead to unintended pregnancy. Drink responsibly. The show also [...]

Mixtape: Fourteen of the Bay Area's Best Record Labels (Podcast #325) Download: Mixtape: The Bay Area's Best Record Labels (Podcast #325) It's conventional wisdom nowadays that bands no longer need record labels to release music into the world. Still, it would be foolish to think that labels no longer matter. A label association can be a critical stamp of approval for potential new fans; the best labels build audiences' trust to the point that they'll support new artists even before hearing them. All of this is to say nothing, of course, of the distribution services labels can offer, and any financial or booking support they might also provide. In recent [...]

Interview: The Hot Toddies talk lineup change, plans for 2014

It's been a busy year for the members of Oakland's The Hot Toddies. Keyboardist Jessica parted ways as she took a teaching job in Thailand, leaving Erin, Sylvia, and Heidi to keep playing as a three piece. A friendly parting from Jessica gave the girls the go-ahead to keep on keeping on with The Hot Toddies. They wrote and recorded their new song, "Summertime Blues" as a threesome for the first time. The track is a slightly heavier, more garage rock than their previous retro bubblegum pop. Along with Kitten and Dog Party, the Hot Toddies will be playing their first [...]

Oakland's The Hot Toddies release new EP, 'Bottoms Up,' on 2/5/12

The Hot Toddies - "Boogie Nights" A new addition to Tricycle Records, Oakland's The Hot Toddies will release their EP, Bottoms Up, on February 5th. The five-track release features Heidi's and Erin's honey-soaked sweet voices singing about how "the last thing she wants is to be knocked up at 17" over twangy guitar that echo of mid-century pop. After playing a headlining slot at the Tricycle Records Holiday Party last year, this all-girl band is ready to be the new face of their label, with a new EP worthy of a sunny day at the beach. Singing of complicated dude issues [...]

Newly signed The Hot Toddies to play Tricycle Records' holiday party

The Hot Toddies - "Boogie Nights" If you're into talented babes, then you're surely ready for The Hot Toddies. These Oakland ladies emulate an easy and breezy pop rock, a comforting beacon among a bevy of less-talented bands who take themselves far too seriously. Their ten-song album, Get Your Heart On, is a clever blend of retro pop and indie surf rock peppered with witty lyrics. Just signed to Tricycle Records, The Hot Toddies are planning to release an EP next month. Heidi, Erin, Jessica, and Sylvia have been playing music since 2005. Sharing a love of whiskey and more [...]
