Tortured by depression, a seizure disorder, a broken marriage and pressures of work, Ian hung himself in his kitchen just 2 days before the band's first US tour and 2 months before his 24th birthday. Joy Division formed in 1978 shortly after Ian saw the Sex Pistols perform. Of note, the opening band that night, making their debut . . . the BUZZCOCKS. 2nd Annual Daniel Johnston Tribute This Friday

For the second year in a row, faithful Daniel Johnston fans have put together an eclectic tribute show to celebrate Johnston's 47th birthday. The lineup has changed a lot, but it at least consists of The Cons, Uni and her Ukelele, David Saint, Demons Wear Muted Colors, and The Graves Brothers Deluxe. They will play at The Knockout this Friday, Jan. 23. The Splinters are no longer playing and we hope they feel better.
