Photos: The Dodos test new songs at ‘Coffee Shop Series’ 5/8

As part of Verizon's Coffee Shop Series, The Dodos offered up a preliminary peak of new material last Sunday, to the near-full Victorian Theater on 16th Street. Equipped with sweets complimentary of Four Barrel making so pleasant what Meric Long and Logan Kroeber joked as an afternoon spent in a cave, the seated audience was constantly encouraged to check out Human Centipede. And being of the fallen victims, I'll admit that judging by the film's trailer, this should blend everything we've ever loved about Hollywood's way of dappling in "science." Thank you Dodos, for that expert suggestion for this summer's [...]

Pick up a free ticket to Dodos, Port O’Brien with a cup of Joe

There's a catch: free tickets will only be available during windows at select coffee shops, and no other form of admission will be granted at either event. The Dodos to tour with The New Pornographers

It brings a proud tear to our Bay Area blogging eyes to watch The Dodos go from Dodo Bird, to a song on our first compilation (the early hit "Men"), and now on to tour with a respected and longstanding indie rock name like The New Pornographers. This is exciting news. On this tour, The Dodos make a stop for Bonnaroo, come home to play The Fox, and receive support from The Dutchess and the Duke and Imaad Wasif. Dodos - "Fables" The New Pornographers - "My Rights Versus Yours" Tourdates are after the jump: 06-10 [...]

Noise Pop 2010: The Dodos & Magik Magik Orchestra @ Palace of Fine Arts

Photos by: Charlie Homo Everyone loves a homegrown success story. And whether you caught The Dodos' Meric Long as a fledgling picker, shoegazing through bangs and armed with loop pedals and two microphones (one always bleeding reverb nearly at ear's might) at Hotel Utah, the Make-Out Room or a myriad of other intimate venues dotted around the Bay Area, it's now simply fodder for the nostalgic among us. For most of Thursday evening's grand production at the Palace of Fine Arts, Meric himself seemed in awe of just how far he and his musical comrades have (well deservedly) come. Being [...]

Noise Pop 2010: Thursday Preview

By Thursday eve, we've already had a significant dose of unique music, art, and film, and Noise Pop 2010 is in full swing. Approaching the latter half of the festival, Thursday's events offer up the standard mix of free events and film screenings, along with a reunion, an orchestra, and an all-encompassing dose of stellar indie music. The first musical spectacle will take place at Cafe du Nord, where a co-headlining event will also include local opener Greg Ashley and San Diego opener Tape Deck Mountain. Our very own Citay, a local collective of creative and hard-working musicians, will share [...]

Media Monday: new Rogue Wave, The Dodos on Letterman, locals on Daytrotter

Last week, Stereogum posted a new one from Rogue Wave's upcoming album Permalight (above album artwork via Spinner). "Good Morning" is more electronically-oriented than the band's past releases, but there's a familiar infectiousness at work: Rogue Wave - "Good Morning" The Dodos played Letterman on Friday. Dave's introduction is priceless ("Their album is entitled Time to Die. Well, Happy New Year!"), after which the band launches into "Fables": Finally, a couple of exciting guests on Daytrotter recently. Yoni Wolf (WHY?) did a session a few days back, featuring three songs from the still-fresh Eskimo Snow and Bob Dylan's [...]

Noise Pop 2010: more bands announced!

The Fresh & Onlys - "Dude's Got A Tender Heart" The latest update from Noise Pop HQ about the 2010 festival includes a whole bunch of potential highlights. While Yoko Ono Plastic Ono Band may be the biggest name in the new announcement (billed as one of the band's three US performances in 2010, and featuring Cornelius, Yuka Honda and Sean Lennon), it's difficult not to be most psyched at the prospect of a collaborative performance between The Dodos and the Magik*Magik Orchestra. Says Noise Pop, as if to taunt our anticipation: The Dodos & Magik*Magik Orchestra Collaborative [...]

The Dodos – “Longform” (video)

In early November, The Dodos posted the following ad on their MySpace blog: Dodos Music Video Needs A Cool Car Dodos music video needs a classic-cool car/van from late 60's - early '70s with chrome details. (Ideally, from the late 60's - early '70's Ford Econoline or 70's Karmann Ghia) The owner of the car needs to be able to drive the car along Highway 1 North of San Francisco as we shoot from outside and inside the vehicle. The video will not feature the driver, only the details of the car and the actress who will ride in the [...]
