The Antlers’ Peter Silberman to play solo show at Swedish American Hall

Peter Silberman just has one of those voices. A distinct, harrowing falsetto that conjures both dark corners of the past and bright feelings for the future. He’ll leave you conflicted, torn and beat up, but he will not leave you unmoved. As the lead singer and creative force behind The Antlers, his three-piece band out of Brooklyn, Silberman penned some emotionally heart-wrenching stuff, most notably the group’s 2009 release, Hospice, a concept album about a young woman dealing with a terminal illness and the impact that sickness has on her care worker. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k7t2I7ljnzo The Antlers have been pretty quiet since [...]

Upcoming free shows at UC Berkeley: The Antlers, The Underachievers, Rogue Wave/Geographer

We once asked the question, "What's the matter with Berkeley?", attempting to figure out why the city of Berkeley lacks suitable rock venues. While this is still worthy of discussion, we can take comfort in the fact that the UC Berkeley campus fights the good fight by continuing to provide a fantastic setting for live music, open to anyone and everyone. Here's a list of upcoming shows at Cal (all shows are free and open to the public): Saturday, April 20th (Cal Day): The Antlers, 5:00pm, Memorial Glade Thursday, April 25th: The Underachievers, 8:30pm, Sproul Plaza Friday, April 26th: Rogue [...]

Mixtape: Fourteen Songs about Love for Valentine's Day (Podcast #300) In case you've managed to avoid this news until now, February 14th is Valentine's Day, the greeting card industry holiday that can compel even the least romantic to confront the topic of love. Over the past few years, plenty of our favorite indie rockers have explored the excitement and complications of love in terrific songs. Sleepy Sun, The Antlers @ The Independent Friday

[media id=15 width=400] Sleepy Sun headlines the Independent Friday night (9pm, $14), supported by an equally anticipated act, The Antlers(NYC) and Misty Mountain from Felton, CA. The Antlers are a three-piece out of Brooklyn, and their record Hospice went first as a self-release until picked up by French Kiss earlier this year. Love from All Songs Considered (NPR), Pitchfork and Stereogum soon followed. "Bear" is a great representative sample of Hospice, which in itself is half ambient, half a dance number. The more rhythm-lacking measures are stabilized by high-energy parts that retreat back to a more familiar indie rock sound. [...]
