Premiere: nenci, ‘tomorrow, for sure’

Local songwriter and producer Leviathe has been behind a huge number of our Text Me favorites in the last few years here at The Bay Bridged. Today, she's releasing a project with new musician nenci — tomorrow, for sure. Produced through a grant from Red Envelope Giving Circle — an organization that supports art in the LGBTQ Asian Pacific Islander community — tomorrow, for sure is a dreamy pop-scape, perfect for setting the mood at chill dinner parties. It also marks nenci's musical debut. Check out the video for the most recent single, "nothing complicated," on YouTube.

Listen in to ‘Text Me Records Group Chat Vol. 2’ out today

We won't go down the list of our favorites off of Text Me Records' newest tape, Group Chat Vol. 2, because we've done plenty of that already. But gang's all here and the project in its entirety too, so give this fun-loving, banger-filled mixtape a spin and ride that wave into the weekend. PS: We also can't stop listening to Tia Nomore's new Mikos Da Gawd-produced jam, "Nu Chain", the first single off her upcoming album, Level. Yeee!

“Hotel Figueroa” is Text Me’s third single off of ‘Group Chat Vol. 2’

And we have another one from the folks from Text Me camp: An LA excursion with the one-two punch combo of Ricky Lake and Sam Johnson. "Hotel Figueroa" arrives as a bit of a contrast to other singles off of the soon-to-come mixtape, Group Chat Vol. 2 — the track is breezy and brolic at the same time, an atypical hazy and low-key yin to the the collective's club-friendly rap yang. We haven't seen too much of Ricky since he caught our attention with the dark wooziness of his album, The Mother 966. But it seems like hanging out at [...]

Text Me Records drops weekend starter, “First to Party”

Photo courtesy of Wabless With few summer Fridays left, the Text Me crew drops off a new track to keep the warm nights going. On "First to Party", Lord Morgan, Ricky Lake and Basi are ready to pregame and with Studio Dad as their designated driver-producer, the rappers swag out on this funky and out there track that sounds like that last sip before stepping out. "First to Party" arrives as the latest single from an upcoming mixtape, Group Chat Vol. 2, born out of the publishing house's infamous writing camps. To some, packing in three to four features on [...]

Text Me Records send off summer with “PESOS”

New in from the Text Me family: "PESOS (Hot Mess)," a Dolores Park romp with a handful of folks from our favorite local publishing house. The first single off Text Me's upcoming mixtape, "PESOS (Hot Mess)" is a scrappy, swaggering (and super-fun) song made for blasting out of a boom box on a blanket on a park lawn somewhere. A selection of regular writers and performers from the Text Me roster hold the song down, showing off their singular talents in turn: WADE08, Tia Nomore, Lord Morgan, and Wayne Mills (keep your eyes peeled for brief cameos from other Text [...]

After releasing songs "Hyphy" and "Run It Back" ahead of the Gooney Tunes project release on November 2, the Text Me Records trio drops another cut today called "Waterfalls," this time demonstrating their chemistry with in-house producer Grandbankss. Tia Nomore, MVCK, Bruh from Last Night and the whole Text Me family celebrates the Gooney Tunes release at Eli's Mile High Club on November 2. MVCK, Tia Nomore, Bruh from Last [...]

Text Me Records announce new mixtape ‘Group Chat’ with first single “So Photogenic”

Text Me Records has been on a roll, stockpiling tunes on tunes from their roster of artists, including Mikos Da Gawd, Julia Lewis, Drew Banga, Tia Nomore and countless others just chillin', making beats and leaving us on the fringes just waiting patiently. But the thumb-twiddling comes to an end with a drop from Sam Johnson and Bruh from Last Night, titled "So Photogenic," part of a new mixtape to kick off back-to-school season, called Group Chat. Expect tons from Text Me veterans and new blood in the coming weeks as the label trickles out singles and cuts from the [...]

Bobbi Rohs drops “itsjusttheletterb”

While there are plenty of new releases to reckon with on the national front, make sure you save headspace for all the great local projects coming out. Take San Francisco singer Bobbi Rohs' new EP itsjusttheletterb, released last Saturday on Text Me Records. Though it’s tempting to label her future-R&B á la Kelela, her versatility as a singer proves she could take things in many different directions. Rohs sounds equally comfortable crooning over 4 on the floor, mid-tempo dance tracks like “A to B” as she is on the moody, piano-laced slow-burner “Goosebumps.” Perhaps the real standout track here is [...]

New Sound, New Me: A quick Q&A with Berel

Singer-songwriter Berel has been doing this music thing for a while. But recently, he dropped the second half of his name (formerly going by Berel Alexander), got a haircut, and linked up with some of the dudes at Text Me Records to forge a new identity ready for the R&B/soul space, debuting his newest single "Simple" last month. We spoke with Berel about his humble beginnings (skipping the part on his viral YouTube video) and what to expect from him in 2018. The Bay Bridged: Your SoundCloud currently only has four songs on it, but there's tons of stuff of [...]

Text Me Records’ Valentine’s Day mixtape ‘Bang My Line’ is all the feels

A smattering of singles, monthly showcases and the continuous scooping of local talent for their collection, Text Me Records has been the imprint to watch for 2018. True to form, the brand stays strong with its first full-fledged drop dubbed Bang My Line, a Valentine's Day compilation mixtape of sensual moods and grooves for this annual day of love (and heartache). The featured artists are as diverse as the music itself, calling on Text Me fam and affiliates like Houston hero Fat Tony, NFL-player-turned-sanger William Robert, the super-sultry Lip Set (made up of Felicia Douglas of Ava Luna and Patrick [...]
