This podcast also highlights the returns of veteran indie rockers Cymbals Eat Guitars and noise project Pharmakon, whose latest albums are being heralded as career highlights. We've also got new music from a slew of great local bands, including Flesh World, whose new album arrives in September, [...]

East Bay punk duo Street Eaters prepare for new album with single ‘Paralyzed’

(Street Eaters, photo by Leo Docuyanan) Street Eaters are two friends who have been making music together since at least 2009. Any band that's been putting out music that long has really figured out how to operate together; between coordinating schedules, goals, and song writing intentions, it's not always a walk in the park. Last year's LP Blood:Muscles:Bones saw Megan March and John No collaborating on 10 tracks of driving, angular punk songs, whose vocals were simultaneously catchy in a pop-punk sense, and also eerie in an icy, San Francisco post-punk vein. Fast forward over a hundred shows and several continents [...]

Video: Street Eaters – “Empty Rooms”

Oakland-based "truewave" punk duo Street Eaters have a new video for the track "Empty Rooms" from their new album, BLOOD::MUSCLES::BONES, which was just released last month. Check out the video right here: Street Eaters are playing a free show at Hemlock Tavern on August 14. In fact, it's their record release party. Street Eaters fall backward in time with video for ‘Reverse’

Though local truewave punks Street Eaters may be gone for the better part of the summer on a tour to promote their latest full-length album, Blood::Muscles::Bones, that doesn't mean they left the Bay Area without a little something for us to remember them by. Last week, the duo debuted a music video for the song "Reverse" off their latest release. Crafted by the band themselves, the video is a mixture of eerie stock footage and cutaway shots of the members going backward in time. If the band's jagged sincerity is to your liking, you can pick up a copy of [...]

Mixtape: Highlights from San Francisco Bay Area Punk, Post-Punk and Hardcore (Podcast #290)

Mixtape: Highlights from San Francisco Bay Area Punk, Post-Punk and Hardcore (Podcast #290) The Bay Area has held a prominent place in punk music since punk first became a thing, with groups like Crime, Avengers, Flipper, and Dead Kennedys among the genre's most important '70s and '80s bands. As punk artists began to achieve mainstream success in the '90s, Bay Area bands were again at the forefront, while a wide variety of acts continued to operate independently on local labels like Lookout! and Fat Wreck Chords. Given that history, it shouldn't be surprising to find that there's still a wealth [...]

Review & Photos: This Bike is a Pipe Bomb and Street Eaters @ Space Lounge, 9/7/12

This Bike is a Pipe Bomb formed in Pensacola, Florida in 1997. At least one bicycle has been destroyed by police, and at least two buildings evacuated after the band's sticker fueled panic post-9/11. Place your stickers wisely. The band played twice this week, once at Thee Parkside and this show at Berkeley's Space Lounge (attached to the Saturn Cafe). There is one more chance to see them (and buy stickers) at The Knockout this Friday, September 14th. Although Space Lounge desperately needs a sound person and the vocals were not nearly loud enough, the band still rocked. They blew [...]

Video: Street Eaters – "Window"

DIY power punk duo Street Eaters are dropping a limited edition, self-titled 12" EP in October, and they've just released the video for lead single "Window", as you can see above. The EP is coming out on Germany's Cut The Cord That...Records and will only be getting a European release, so you'll have to either order one via international mail order (which you can do here), or pick one up at a Street Eaters show after they return from their first ever tour of Europe in November and October. But just cuz I like the looks of you, I'll go [...]

Street Eaters – “Nation Builder”

Street Eaters - "Nation Builder" Rusty Eyes & Hydrocarbons is the first full length from East Bay band Street Eaters, the duo of Megan March (drummer in Before The Fall and Neverending Party) and John No (frontman of Fleshies). The album follows a series of singles and the We See Monsters EP, and comes out tomorrow on Bakery Outlet Records and Plan-It X Records. Like the rest of the album, "Nation Builder" is built out of a few pieces -- drums, bass, and two sets of vocals -- but the duo transforms those components into something angular and insistent. Street [...]
