Steel Cranes on their new record, fave podcasts, and Bay Area future

Steel Cranes, an undeniably catchy duo from Oakland, has been busy. Almost three years removed from their debut release Ouroboros in 2013, the rock duo featuring Amanda Schukle on drums and Tracy Shapiro on vocals and guitar have released Tango.  At only nine songs, the album appears light on first notice. At just under 40 minutes, all but one song is over four minutes and none are longer than five minutes — "Take Me Down" is only about three and a half minutes. You should probably do yourself a favor and make sure the 'repeat all' setting is engaged, because you won't be ready for [...]

The Redlight District announce live video, mini-tour with Steel Cranes

The Redlight District of Santa Cruz is gearing up for a week and a half long tour with their most recent release: a pro-shot video from their March 11 appearance at Milk Bar in SF. Compiled by Santa Cruz videographer Michael Thomas, the video of "What's My Name" is a soundboard-quality recording that allows a unique glimpse into the essence of the band's electric live performances. Check it out below and learn a little more about the band here. Notable upcoming dates include back-to-back shows with Oakland-based duo Steel Cranes, where each band will take turns as the supporting act [...]

Premiere: Watch Steel Cranes’ video for “Before Dawn”

Oakland duo Steel Cranes' debut LP Ouroboros was one of the Bay Area's heaviest records of 2013, and they followed that release with a lengthy fall US tour and a West Coast swing this spring. Now they're back with a video for another track off Ouroboros, "Before Dawn", which is the third video off the album and premieres exclusively here on The Bay Bridged. The "Before Dawn" video features Steel Cranes donning some pretty sweet red, single-piece pajamas – both on stage and high up in the mountains in a field of snow. "We shot the video on our West [...]

Premiere: Watch Steel Cranes’ video for “Boat Song”

(Photo by Miakoda Collins) Steel Cranes released one of my favorite debuts during 2013 – the wickedly heavy Ouroboros – but 2014 has been relatively quiet for the Oakland duo of Tracy Shapiro and Amanda Schukle, aside from a couple Bay Area shows. That is, until now – the band is back with a video for the lead single off that debut LP, "Boat Song", and it's premiering today exclusively on The Bay Bridged. The nautically-themed video was animated by Jonny Thomas, whom Shapiro and Schukle have actually never met. "He relocated to New Orleans from the Bay Area a [...]

Exclusive Stream & Interview: Steel Cranes' savage debut 'Ouroboros' (win a copy of the album)

Photo: Russ Wright Oakland's Steel Cranes are about to start making some serious waves. Riding the strength of two massively heavy singles ("Boat Song" and "Moving On"), the duo – comprised of drummer Amanda Schukle and singer/guitarist Tracy Shapiro – will self-release their debut LP Ouroboros tomorrow, and they've begun spreading the good news of their blistering rock sound to masses on a US tour that kicked off last Friday night with a record release party at The Night Light near Jack London Square. I had a chance to catch up with Schukle and Shapiro via email on [...]

Editors' Picks: What We've Been Listening to This Week (Steel Cranes, Sam Flax, Pond, Pelican, Yung Lean)

Steel Cranes (Photo: Miakoda Collins) Jason: After hearing "Boat Song", the lead single off Steel Cranes' upcoming debut LP Ouroboros, I was hooked by their heavy as all get-out sound. Now, the Oakland duo (consisting of singer and guitarist Tracy Shapiro and drummer Amanda Schukle) is back with a second offering off that upcoming album, due out September 24 – the equally heavy "Moving On", which has an almost poppy chorus without sacrificing the band's snarling edge across Shapiro's story of a relationship gone bad. The track is accompanied by a gritty video filmed along the shores of [...]

Steel Cranes – "Boat Song"

"Who is this and where in the name of the Flying Spaghetti Monster did they come from?" That was the first thought that ran through my head when I opened the link to "Boat Song", the lead single off Steel Cranes' forthcoming debut, Ouroboros. The answer is pretty straightforward: Steel Cranes is a loud-as-hell rock duo comprised of Amanda Schukle on drums and Tracy Shapiro on vocals and guitar, and they hail from Oakland. According to the band, they met in early 2012 when Schukle grabbed a late night snack at the neighborhood joint where Shapiro was working, and within [...]
