Spooky Mansion share “Torture” from forthcoming LP

(photo: Kristin Cofer) San Francisco's Spooky Mansion are back with a brand-new track "Torture" off their forthcoming LP Alright. As usual, the track is dominated by Grayson Converse's impassioned wails supported by toe-tapping rhythm and a catchy-as-hell recurring riff. It's a win. Alright, which was co-produced by Alexi Glickman of Sandy's, will join Spooky Mansion on a few West Coast dates, ending with an April 26 co-release show at Rickshaw Stop. Three unique local acts (Foxtails Brigade, Everyone Is Dirty, Spooky Mansion) hit the Chapel

Tonight, the Chapel will play host to an excellent trio of acts, each brilliant in their own way: Foxtails Brigade, Everyone Is Dirty, and Spooky Mansion. All three bands are Bay Area locals, and all three have steered their art into striking new territory. Fronted by the silken-voiced Laura Weinbach, Foxtails Brigade concocts an idiosyncratic blend of genres that hovers somewhere between twee indie pop, lounge singing, carnival music, and however you might pin down acts like Reverie Sound Revue, Panda Bear, and Merrill Garbus’s tUnE-yArDs. Like those bands, Foxtails Brigade makes use of angular, unexpected intervals and vertiginous shifts [...]

Premiere: Spooky Mansion’s latest EP

Photo: Kristin Cofer On Spooky Mansion's latest, they've taken a step away from the sunny surf rock sounds for their latest EP, I'm the Moon, You're the Wave (so plz change w/ me). You'll still get plenty of lead singer Grayson Converse's impassioned wails, but they added elements such as heavy bass and drum samples that give them a completely new feel. The unique vibe for I'm the Moon, You're the Wave, began with "Night Owl", a song that Converse says was just an instrumental with a chorus. He explains, "...when my friend Rose Droll laid down rap verses on [...]

Premiere: Spooky Mansion unveil retro-cool video for “Feel That Blood” on Wave Dweller Records

It's already November, but we can't get enough of the spooky -- Spooky Mansion, that is. The San Francisco-based paranormal surf-soul rock 'n' roll group are emerging on the scene as purveyors of sunny yet gritty music that puts a fresh spin on Bay Area garage rock. Their latest single, "Feel That Blood," is chock full of angular guitar riffs and wry melodic vocals from frontman Grayson Converse. And we're proud to debut its accompanying video, which may give Hawaii 5-0 a run for its money. Directed by Converse himself and shot by Greg DiMartino of fellow San Francisco band O (fka [...]

SONG-FREUD: Spooky Mansion’s “New Lawn”

Welcome back to SONG-FREUD, the only music column that doubles as a deep cavity search of your favorite Bay Area music. A pro bono psychotherapy session available for your cathartic pleasure, SONG-FREUD is also a public service. It's good karma to write, and good karma to read. ***** In this week’s SONG-FREUD, we turn our attention to the age-old spectacle of bestiality. Some people get freaky with dolphins, and others like to perform sex acts on horses, but on their tune “New Lawn,” San Francisco's Spooky Mansion take things to a whole new level. Their singer, Grayson Converse, is sleeping with a frog! (In the [...]
