New Video Roundup: The Dodos, Part Time, KIT, Speculator, Lumerians
A ton of new music videos have dropped recently. Here are five new ones from Bay Area artists that are definitely worth checking out. The Dodos' latest video from No Color arrived just before the band plays at the Henry Miller Library tonight. "19" comes from Part Time's excellent synth-pop album What Would You Say?. Part Time performs with Pamela, Surf Club, and Permanent Collection at Thee Parkside on September 15th. KIT's instrument-smashing 16mm clip for "Out of Ruins" was directed by Steven Andrew Garcia. The song is off the band's latest album, Invocation. Earlier this week, we wrote about [...]
Stream Speculator’s new album ‘Nice’ a week before its release
Thanks to Altered Zones, you can now stream Nice, the new album from recent Bay Area transplant Speculator. Nice will be released on August 30th on Underwater Peoples. Speculator: Nice by alteredzones As Nick Ray told Altered Zones: My last release, Lifestyle, was conceived and produced as a cassette LP. I tried to create and include as many analog recording artifacts as possible, in addition to samples of other artists' work recorded using a variety of methods...Nice was recorded using exactly the same equipment with a much different intent. Only two songs on this record use samples...The record is called [...]
Taking Stock of July: A mix featuring fifteen of our favorite songs from the blog last month
If you're anything like me, you know how difficult it can be to keep track of all of the new music that's constantly floating around the Internet. Here's our latest month-in-review mix collecting some our favorite new (or new to us) songs recently posted on the website. Gathered in the mix are fifteen tracks, all from Bay Area bands, that were posted on TheBayBridged.com in July. The Bay Bridged - Best of the Blog July 2011 Mixtape Tracklisting: 1. Dominant Legs - "Hoop Of Love" 2. Part Time - "In This Filthy City" 3. Man/Miracle - "Meditations on Nothing" 4. [...]
Speculator – “Jenny Says”
Not much mention has been made of Speculator yet here as a local musician. Speculator is Nick Ray, the guy who relocated his one-man party from Los Angeles to Oakland only recently and moved in with his pals Weekend (he remixed "Comma Summer" for their last 7"). "Jenny Says" is Nick Ray's latest, probably the kind of fuzzy, darker-meaning pop song for those who enjoy Melted Toys. The track will appear on Speculator's second full-length Nice, slated for an August 30 release on Underwater Peoples. Enjoy it and others next Friday when Speculator performs with Terry Malts and Young Prisms [...]
Strange Dogs series starts Sunday @ SUB-Mission
We've been fortunate to announce yet another all-ages show series emerging this week, the bi-monthly Strange Dogs. Backed by the SF band Weekend, Strange Dogs aims to create bills based on bands' similarities, and Sunday evening's grouping I'd guess was chosen by alliteration, possibly on the theme S is for shoegaze -- with Speculator (LA), Swanifant (Oakland), Skeletal System and Psychic Handbook at SUB-Mission (6pm, $5). Swanifant - "Steps" For Strange Dog 1, expect a range of dark wave, shoegaze and more paradoxical styling from Bay Area bands we're curious to hear more from. Oakland's Swanifant seemingly has [...]
