Some Ember – "Flowers Open"

Oakland's very own Dylan Travis, who performs dark, experimental synth pop under the moniker Some Ember, has released a new track called "Flowers Open." The song is the first taste from his soon-to-be-announced sophomore cassette release, Pleasure. The expansive synth pop jam is vibrant with psychic energy and spacey sonic imagery. Some Ember performs with Yalls at The Glasslands in New York City on August 12, and will be returning to The Knockout in San Francisco on August 23 with Uncanny Valley and Group Rhoda. Some Ember's debut tape release Hotel of Lost Light is out now on Crash Symbols. [...]

Interview: Dan Casey discusses the differences between Yalls and his latest alter ego, Steezy Ray Vibes

Although Berkeley-via-Philly musician Dan Casey is best known for his funky electronic performances as Yalls, he has been making music under various monikers since 2003. From Lemons are Louder Than Rocks, to Yalls, to Steezy Ray Vibes and other secret underground projects, Dan is never afraid to explore new styles. You may have become familiar with Steezy Ray Vibes after a demo for the single "Empty City" was quietly released on Soundcloud a month ago. Buzz began to build around the blogs, and the project deservedly caught the attention of The Fader and other major tastemakers. Dan recently released the [...]

Video: Yalls – "Real Fantasy" (Terroreyes.tv session); free East Bay show on Wednesday

Once Sacramento, now Los Angeles-based video producer Terroreyes.tv gives Oakland electronic musician Yalls a strong party-vibe look with this session. Staged during a recent weekend trip to Los Angeles, this performance receives friendly help from Dylan Travis (Some Ember). It gives the bright, lyrically memorable "Real Fantasy" a new perspective -- the song's usual underwater echo has less impact on Dan's vocals, letting them fall further back in the mix. Both Yalls and Some Ember perform this Wednesday in Oakland at the first installment of a collaboration between Decoder and Mapzzz, appropriately named Easy Bay Wednesdays. Yalls, Some Ember, DJs [...]

Some Ember – “Deep Ocean”

Deep Ocean by Some Ember Man/Miracle frontman Dylan Travis has been keeping his electronic side project under wraps for some time, but today Some Ember debuts with "Deep Ocean." The track is part of a killer electronic/hip-hop compilation fresh out, Dope Mountain Fuck Vol. 2. The compilation marks a new beginning to a preexisting label collaboration amongst friends, Crash Symbols. Here's more on that: About a year-and-a-half ago I first met Dwight and his then girlfriend Liz while touring with Born Gold (then Gobble Gobble). It was obvious from the first handshake that I had just discovered two of my [...]
