Sacramento’s So Stressed releases new video for “Merv King & The Phantoms”

Meredith Graves' new label Honor Press was willing to take a shot on Sacramento's So Stressed, and it looks like the partnership was a perfect match. The post-hardcore trio, made up of Kenneth Draper, Morgan Fox, and Andrew Garcia, might make tough, tense tunes, but that doesn't mean they're all serious all the time. As a matter of fact, their most recent video for "Merv King and the Phantoms" (from the upcoming album The Unlawful Trade of Greco-Roman Art) actually turned out pretty lighthearted. Wreck & Reference, Bosse-De-Nage, and So Stressed announce show at Oakland’s Golden Bull

California duo Wreck & Reference have only been around since 2011, but the band has already toured as support with an array of acts of an impressive caliber; Deafheaven and Liturgy, just to name a couple, have smacked them onto their bills in recent years. With the release of 2014's drearily stellar Want, Wreck & Reference presented a novel type of metal — one that was rooted in electronic instruments and challenged the classic (and some might argue, tired) tropes of the "conservative" genre. The band is finally about to embark on their own headlining nationwide tour, and will stop in Oakland at the [...]

Sacramento’s So Stressed signs to Meredith Graves’ new label Honor Press

Meredith Graves (Perfect Pussy, ex-Shoppers) recently announced the launch of her new Captured Tracks imprint, Honor Press, and their first band – Sacramento's So Stressed. As far as I know, this noise rock trio has been cranking out twisted songs in various incarnations of their lineup since around 2009. Their live show is wild – synth player/vocalist Morgan Fox is failing around behind his setup, guitarist Andrew Garcia is focusing on his riffs off to the side, and drummer Kenneth Draper is executing unbelievable fills at every moment. I once saw them play in Oakland, and in a break between parts [...]

Wreck and Reference tours Northern California with Planning For Burial

Sacramento/LA duo Wreck and Reference are playing four Northern California shows to close out September, including a gig on Sunday 22 at Ouija Club in San Francisco with Oakland bands Swamp Witch and Alamoon. (Note that this is an early show, which will start around 6pm and end before 10, with Wreck and Reference likely playing around 7.) The gigs coincide with a Planning For Burial tour, and the New Jersey band is scheduled to join Wreck and Reference for all four shows. The first set takes place this Friday at Third Space in Davis, where Wreck and Reference drummer [...]
