Photos: Sleigh Bells’ Outside Lands night show at the Independent
Sleigh Bells (photo: Ian Young) As part of the more intimate night shows from this year's Outside Lands, Sleigh Bells rocked the house and brought the noise to the Independent last weekend. Check out the always-energetic lead singer Alexis Krauss performing from that night in the gallery below.

Review + Photos: Sleigh Bells at Mezzanine
Sleigh Bells (photo: Ian Young) When Sleigh Bells announced that they were cancelling their Tuesday night show at The Independent due to singer Alexis Krauss’ ongoing bout with laryngitis, the news was a double disappointment. First, fans were deprived of seeing a hugely popular act in a small, cozy club, which is always a treat. And secondly, Krauss’ health problems meant that she wouldn’t be at full strength to belt out the tunes from Sleigh Bells’ latest album, Jessica Rabbit, a record that showcased the lead singer’s vocals acrobatics in a manner unheard of before from the group. In hindsight, the [...]
Electro-punk duo Sleigh Bells announce November date at The Independent
Since they burst upon the scene in 2010 with their cheerleader-wields-machine gun aesthetic, Sleigh Bells’ songs have always been punctuated with an explosive, deafening wall of sound from guitarist Derek Miller and implacable swagger from vocalist Alexis Krauss. That formula, however, seems destined to change for their upcoming (and still-untitled) fourth album. In place of the immediate pacing and cacophony of noise, Sleigh Bells have returned with byzantine song structures and hushed atmospherics for the three singles they’ve released so far to promote the new record. https://open.spotify.com/track/5iXaFZUTQNxZ94RHh6ZeXl The latest track, “Hyper Dark,” set’s Miller’s guitars to the far background, allowing [...]
Review: The 2013 Treasure Island Music Festival
This year's Treasure Island Music Festival attracted a diverse crowd, most of which partied way too hard during the high-energy dance sets of Saturday to attend Sunday's more guitar-oriented lineup. Sunday was also much colder, with lines for coffee often stretching beyond lines for beer. Schools of glowing white jellyfish drifted through the festival grounds on handheld sticks, as music fans wandered back and forth between the two stages. Giraffage kicked things off at noon during Saturday's stretch of the festival after an introduction from Noise Pop/Salty Artist Management's Chad Heimann aka Chad Salty, performing sample-driven dance music for the [...]
What we love about Treasure Island's Sunday lineup: Haim, Real Estate, & more
Every year, Treasure Island Music Festival brings two days' worth of scenic music consumption to that island out in the Bay. The way the booking pans out, Saturday rounds up most of the electronic and dance-inducing performers of the weekend, leaving Sunday for indie rock enthusiasts. This year's lineup looks slightly different. Especially for those who enjoy electronic music, the second day lineup for this year's festival is experiencing a slight spillover of said genre artists -- including the relentlessly innovative Animal Collective, the aggressively pop-electro duo Sleigh Bells, and the current king of electronic pop, James Blake. Full disclosure: [...]
Oakland beatsmith Jel remixes Sleigh Bells
Check out this very cool remix by Jel — aka Oakland's Jeff Logan — of the Sleigh Bells' single "Comeback Kid," from their newest album Reign of Terror. The remix reduces the overblown guitar attack of the original song into a sort of hazy underbelly for Alexis Krauss' vocals. It kinda sounds like you're playing the song through crappy speakers (which you might be) while beats from your roommate's hip-hop records bleed through the walls. Jel is also opening for Sleigh Bells for the July segment of their tour. Full dates and the original video for "Comeback Kid" below. Jel [...]
