Best of the Rest – February 2015 (Six Organs of Admittance, bAd bAd, Panic Is Perfect, & more)

Ben Chasny of Six Organs of Admittance (Photo Credit: Drag City) Every month, our editors hear lots of great new music, at shows around the Bay, exploring the far reaches of the Interwebs, and sifting through the veritable deluge of emails from artists and publicists around the globe hawking the latest songs and videos. While we’d love to write about everything that catches our ear, it’s impossible – there’s just too much good music out there. This is an attempt at rounding up the latest and greatest that we didn't have the bandwidth to cover throughout the month – the [...]

Live This Month: February 2015 — an audio guide to upcoming SF concerts

http://media.libsyn.com/media/thebaybridged/LTM_February_2015.mp3 Download: Live This Month: February 2015 (Podcast #356) In Live This Month, we sample some of the great local and out-of-town bands performing in the coming month in the San Francisco Bay Area. Two Gallants handily win the award for the hardest-working band in the Bay Area this month. With a new album, We Are Undone, garnering great reviews, the local duo kicks off a ton of touring in North America and Europe over the next four months with three nights of back-to-back local shows. Two Gallants aren't the only locals with a new record, though. This month's podcast [...]

Best of the Rest, 11/21/2014 (Sonny & the Sunsets, Six Organs of Admittance, and more!)

Sonny & the Sunsets (Photo: Alice Shaw) It’s time for our roundup of all those highlights from the last few weeks that we weren’t able to feature on their own – here’s the best of the rest, as determined by The Bay Bridged editors. Longtime local favs Sonny & the Sunsets announced a new album Talent Night at the Ashram, out February 17 on Polyvinyl. The album was originally a film project about society's fringe characters – several short films that formed a feature-length movie when viewed sequentially. While writing the scripts and even hiring actors and shooting clips, frontman [...]

Live This Month: September 2012 — an audio guide through SF concerts this month (Podcast #286)

Live This Month: September 2012 — an audio guide through SF concerts this month (Podcast #286) In Live This Month, we sample some of the great local and out-of-town bands performing in the coming month in the San Francisco Bay Area. September is overflowing with compelling live music choices -- so many so, in fact, that a bunch of significant concerts didn't make the podcast. Of the picks that did make the cut, however, our top pick is our fifth annual Rock Make Street Festival, which brings 70 arts and crafts vendors and twelve local bands to 18th Street and [...]

Six Organs of Admittance shares "One Thousand Birds" off upcoming LP 'Ascent'; announces West Coast tour

Six Organs of Admittance — the psych-folk solo brainchild of guitarist Ben Chasny — recently shared a track entitled "One Thousand Birds" off the latest album Ascent via SoundCloud. The epic, six-plus-minute journey to the center of the universe features Chasny's gentle vocals drifting over an ample dose of eerie, distortion-filled guitar. Take a listen below. Ascent dropped August 21st on Drag City. Chasny also just announced a handful of West Coast dates in late September and early October, including a visit to Bottom of the Hill on September 22nd fronted by Young Moon, a new project from Trevor Montgomery [...]

Videos: Donovan Quinn performs solo, with Six Organs of Admittance’s Ben Chasny

Donovan Quinn & the 13th Month - "Mom's House" Donovan Quinn & the 13th Month's post-Velvets psych-pop was one of the highlights of last week's Dark Nights show, and it reminded me to revisit the group's 2010 full length, Your Wicked Man. Via Soft Abuse's blog, I was excited to see that Quinn has formed a duo with Six Organs of Admittance's Ben Chasny called The New Bums. The two videos here come from a recent tour where Quinn opened for Chasny: above, Donovan performs a new song solo; below, take a listen to/look at The New Bums.
