Epicsauce.com debuts new show series at Milk

The local, show listings-based Epicsauce.com has announced a new indie show series in the Upper Haight. This series will take place on Thursdays (starting this Thursday, 3/11) at a new venue called Milk, which has taken over the previous Club Boomerang space, located at 1840 Haight St. (across from Amoeba Records). Considering there isn't much in the way of indie rock venues over in that section of town, this should prove to be an interesting (and welcome) experiment. French Miami - "Science Fiction" The first rendition of this series on Thursday will feature French Miami, White Cloud and [...]

Worker Bee, Boomsnake, Silian Rail @ the Hemlock Tuesday

Tonight's bill at the Hemlock Tavern (9 pm, $5) will include two Bay Area standbys, plus some San Diego music thrown in for good measure. Worker Bee will be joined by Silian Rail, and that sunny city down south will be represented by Boomsnake (currently on a West Coast tour). Silian Rail - "'I' is Sombody Else" Worker Bee have been playing on and off in the Bay Area since 2006, culling music into EP form and strengthening their craft along the way. Their haunting lo-fi has echoes of post-rock on songs from Tangler, the band's 2009 full-length [...]

Musical Pairings: The Bay Needs Guitars!

It is Fall in the Bay Area, and like most other places on the West coast, that means it gets dark earlier in the evenings, stays dark longer in the mornings, and we are already seeing some monsoon-like rains that will be more and more frequent in the coming months.  And although there is nothing wrong with throwing on The Morning Benders' excellent Bedroom Covers album or the Papercuts' fantastic You Can Have What You Want and pulling out a bottle of red wine and choosing to accept and deal with the weather (great albums for that purpose by the [...]

SF supergroup venerates the =w= @ BotH Thursday

Nostalgic albums -- they cause the ear to tingle upon the first note of the first song and once soundtracked every moment of a period of your life. Call them crazy, but a group of local talent had the valiant idea of giving Weezer's Pinkerton a public genuflect at Bottom of the Hill tomorrow night with two more Bay Area acts: Wendy Darling and The Definite Articles (9pm, $10). If half-Japanese girls are your thing or maybe you're just tired of sex altogether, there's at least one song for you. The headliners will perform the 1996 masterpiece from start to [...]

French Miami - Science Fiction Don't know what you're in store for when it comes to seeing Silian Rail? Just heading back to town from a West Coast tour, the two piece instrumental packs in more volume and melody than some full bands! Here is a video podcast they did a while back with Chasing the Moon at Hyde Street Studios, the hub of many [...]
