Mixtape: Music to Drink Beer to (Podcast #261)

Mixtape: Music to Drink Beer to (Podcast #261) Think of our latest mixtape as something of an hour-long indie music/beer pairing, inspired by our upcoming The Bay Brewed rock and roll beer festival. On Saturday, December 3rd, we'll be at The Verdi Club, for performances by Weekend, Sleepy Sun, Extra Classic, and Terry Malts, and unlimited local craft beer samplings from 21st Amendment, Anchor Steam, Beach Chalet, Drake's Brewing, Lagunitas, Magnolia, Marin Brewing Company, Social Kitchen & Brewery, and Speakeasy. In this mixtape, we've collected music from 21 local indie rock, garage, lo-fi and psych bands whose rocking tunes serve [...]

New videos from Wooden Shjips and Sic Alps

Sic Alps recently unleashed this minute-long acid trip for the Breadhead B-side, "1/2 Rabbit Sandwich with Fries." The 7" is out now on Drag City. (via Raven Sings the Blues) Wooden Shjips' new Patrick Whalen-directed video for "Crossing" captures the band performing live from what feels like a thousand different angles. It's the latest clip for a song from the band's West LP.

Photos & Recap: 2011 Woodsist Fest in Big Sur, 7/30-7/31/11

Photos by Nicole Browner and Ben Van Houten Last weekend in Big Sur, Woodsist Records and (((folkYEAH!))) teamed up to present the sublimely wonderful 2011 Woodsist Fest. These photos showcase most of the many bands that played at the Fernwood Resort and Henry Miller Library, but they just can't come close to capturing the natural beauty of Big Sur that enveloped the weekend. Musically, the highlights were many. The new Real Estate songs have me really excited about the new record. The Fresh and Onlys and Woods should figure out some way to tour in their "Big Band" configuration. Also, [...]
