Video: Sic Alps – "Carrie Jean" / "Biz Bag"
We previously posted Sic Alps' video for "She’s on Top," and the band recently served up two more videos from the three-song EP. Enjoy clips for "Carrie Jean" and "Biz Bag" below, then grab the new record from Drag City.
Sic Alps release new EP, new video
Sic Alps reel in their psychedelic mentality on their latest She’s on Top EP in favor of some more straightforward garage rock. “Biz Bag”, premiered on Pitchfork, offers some tightly knit, ‘70s inspired rock ‘n’ roll, complete with a crescendo-ing guitar solo at the peak. It’s certainly more melodic than the Sic Alps we’ve known, but far from something too polished to be true garage rock. Sort of like trading acid trips for beer romps. Likewise is the title track, “She’s on Top”, the first video to be dropped from the three song set. The video consists of a chop and [...]
Review & Photos: Psychic Ills, Mike Donovan (Sic Alps), Föllakzoid, AAN @ Hemlock Tavern, 2/28/13 (Noise Pop 2013)
The Hemlock seems an unlikely venue for Noise Pop. The oversized cutesy animated Noise Pop banner looked out of place behind the tiny stage in the dingy nethers of a club that prides itself on featuring "a bleeding-edge, non-mainstream mix of local, national and international bands...subgenres, scenes and microscenes." Like putting a Hello Kitty sticker on a murky bong. That said, it seemed like any ol' night at the Hemlock -- a veritable mix of the too cool for school, too stoned for school, and TL party party people (some of which I wager to guess have never stepped foot [...]

Live This Month: September 2012 — an audio guide through SF concerts this month (Podcast #286)
Live This Month: September 2012 — an audio guide through SF concerts this month (Podcast #286) In Live This Month, we sample some of the great local and out-of-town bands performing in the coming month in the San Francisco Bay Area. September is overflowing with compelling live music choices -- so many so, in fact, that a bunch of significant concerts didn't make the podcast. Of the picks that did make the cut, however, our top pick is our fifth annual Rock Make Street Festival, which brings 70 arts and crafts vendors and twelve local bands to 18th Street and [...]
Sic Alps debuts video for "Glyphs," playing record release party at Make-Out Room on 9/7/12
As we reported back in June, Sic Alps are dropping their eponymous fifth album on September 11th via Chicago’s Drag City label. They previously released the Sgt. Pepper's-esque "Glyphs"–a beautifully spaced out and bouncy number that maintains a familiar, dirty garage edge. Now the band is back with a video for "Glyphs", directed by John Harlow and Mike Donovan. Premiering recently over on Pitchfork, the video features a jean jacket-wearing scarecrow, guitar hurling, smoke bombs (lots of smoke bombs), smoke bomb baseball with a guitar doubling as the bat, a burning effigy, the sweetest '80s MTV letter jacket you'll ever [...]
Sic Alps announce self-titled fifth album, out September 11, 2012 on Drag City
Just a year after releasing their double LP Napa Asylum, Sic Alps is back with their eponymous fifth album, which will drop September 11th on Chicago's Drag City label. The first single, the album's attitude-filled opening track "Glyphs", premiered recently on Pitchfork. The song actually has a very Beatles feel—albeit a very lofi, raw Beatles feel. From the gentle, string-filled intro, to the bevy of dirty and angular, but oddly melodic guitars and vocals that follow, "Glyphs" showcases this band's incredible talent: Sic Alps - "Glyphs" Having just wrapped a tour of Europe in May, Sic Alps aren't heading back [...]
Sic Alps to release 7-inch of Tronics covers on April 24th
According to Drag City's press release, Sic Alps aren't diehard record collectors, but their old Tronics singles have earned a very special and permanent place by the stereo. So, one fateful night, the duo decided to record four of those beloved songs, leaving us with Pangea Globe, which is slated for release at the end of April. For those of you that don't know, Tronics are an obscure but awesome post-punk band from London that, between 1979 and 1984, released four singles, a cassette, an LP, and a flexi-disc. Originals are very hard to come by these days, and they [...]
