Sheer Mag’s power-pop gets heavy at the New Parish
Artwork by Robert Beatty Sheer Mag’s new album A Distant Call hits the stands August 23...and might we suggest starting with “The Killer” if you want a sweet taste? It’s like Thin Lizzy got smacked with the power-pop stick and Tina Halladay took the mic. Distant Call may be the band’s strongest album yet. Tracks have powerful messages, with a heart in rock and roll and some cool melodic moments. Guitar riffs, indeed. A Distant Call by SHEER MAG Hello, dolly, they’re coming to The New Parish on the 20th of September and we expect it’ll be a fine show. [...]

Sheer Mag, Tenement, Marbled Eye bring a unique take on punk to the Chapel
Philadelphia’s Sheer Mag has been grinding out classic rock and punk-tinged tracks since the 2014 unleashing of their debut 7-inch. An EP a followed a year later, earning them a number of devotees, until the recent release of their full debut album, Need To Feel Your Love. For its release, Sheer Mag has held fast to an independent mindset that’s seen them shun labels as significant as Rough Trade and Merge in favor of a self-release on their own imprint, Wilsuns RC. The writing team of rhythm guitarist/lyricist Matt Palmer and lead singer Tina Halladay has proven to be a [...]

Pizza Punx celebrate two years at Santa Rosa show with White Fence and more
The North Bay's Pizza Punx started in 2013 as a way to alleviate the boredom of living in Sonoma County with a little injection of rock and roll. “Pizza Punx is about fuckin’ keeping it real and being bored as fuck and maybe giving a fuck about making your area a little more interesting,” Papa Pizza, one of their anonymous leaders, told the Oak Leaf News last year. “It’s really about rock 'n' roll and everything therein, eating too much pizza, and maybe vomiting periodically throughout the night at different people’s houses.” Sounds like a valiant mission, if you ask [...]
