Shannon and the Clams – "Into A Dream"

Oakland’s favorite doo-wop, punk-infused rock ‘n’ rollers Shannon & the Clams are gearing up to release their latest LP later this month, titled Dreams in the Rat House. The threesome first gave us a little taste of the new material with the 'Ozma' 7” released in August 2012, and now another new song, “Into a Dream”, has emerged via a premiere on Nylon Magazine. As always, Shannon Shaw’s vocals are magically charismatic, somehow embodying a handpicked bundle of musical eras all at once. Her howls meld with fellow vocalist and guitarist Cody Blanchard, taking us (yup) “Into a Dream” of [...]

The Mallard, Shannon and the Clams, Blasted Canyons host fundraiser for Ursula Rodriguez on 2/20/13

Long-time San Francisco resident Ursula Rodriguez (whom you may know from such hits as a being a bartender at Rite Spot, an Amoeba employee, a Bottom of the Hill employee or a KUSF DJ) had a pretty shitty 2012. Not long after her house of 15 years burned down, her car, containing all the stuff she could salvage from her home, was broken into and her possessions stolen. Good thing she’s got such strong ties to the local music community. On February 20th, Brick and Mortar will host a fundraiser to help cover the cost of finding a new home, [...]

Video: Shannon and the Claims – "Ozma," from new 7"

Oakland doo-wop revivalists Shannon and the Clams have released a new 7" on Oakland's 1-2-3-4 Go! Records. The first single, "Ozma", is "one of the sweetest odes to a dearly departed, snoring, rabbit munching mutt" (so says the press release). The other side is the band's crowd-pleasing cover of the Muppet Babies theme song. The record will be available on color and standard vinyl. You can listen to the YouTube preview for "Ozma" below. It's a sweet, soothing tribute, full of all the throaty vocals and "ooh-wah-ooh"s you’d expect from the band. Shannon and the Clams will also embark on [...]
