Shaggy Sample drops ‘#2 Record’
Oakland's Shaggy Sample just released their second album, the appropriately-titled #2 Record. While the first album heavily features David Jaberi's Wurlitzer finding classic grooves, #2 Record is dominated more by jangly guitars, giving the first half of the album more of a light-rock-meets-California-country-vibe than their debut. Fans of electric piano grooves need not fret, as the Wurlitzer is more prominent on the back half. Shaggy Sample performs at Starline Social Club October 27, which if you haven't noticed, has been booking some very nice shows as of late. Oakland's Shaggy Sample, fronted by David Jaberi and his Wurlitzer, just released their debut album of throwback pop entitled My Other Car Is. Shaggy Samples' members previously played with a variety of bands: drummer Evan Hashi played with the psychadelic country outfit Lazer Zepplin, bassist Charlie Biando made experimental pop with Hermit Thrushes while Jaberi and guitarist Mark Deutsch form the appropriately named rap/R&B duo Jaberi & Deutsch. James Rabbit releases their 16th(!) album 'Marvels'
James Rabbit, the Santa Cruz-formed project centered around Tyler Martin's songwriting, released their 16th album Marvels last month. Marvels is the final James Rabbit album recorded at the Santa Cruz "Crystal Palace", which since 1999 was Martin's home, a recording studio, practice space, and live venue for Santa Cruz artists until it was demolished this year.
