Counting down to Regional Bias: Why your support is so important!

We're a little over one week away from our annual Regional Bias concert (and our fifth birthday party!), taking place on August 6th at the Verdi Club in San Francisco (7pm, $10-20, tickets on sale now!). As we've said before, even though Regional Bias is a fundraiser, our top priority is making it a really fun, special night for everyone who attends. To that end, we've got four great bands performing -- Little Wings and Royal Baths, White Cloud, and Sea of Bees -- as well as DJs, art, and more. Entertainment value aside, though, there's another reason to buy [...]

Sea of Bees – “Gnomes (Tunng Remix)” (playing at Regional Bias on 8/6!)

HVN223 Sea Of Bees - Gnomes (Tunng Remix) by heavenlyrecordings We can't think of a better way to kick off our Regional Bias fundraiser on August 6th than with a performance by Sacramento's Sea of Bees. Julie Baenziger's stunning indie folk-rock project is about to release its third single from Songs For the Ravens, and Gnomes, out August 15th 23rd, features the title track, the above remix by Tunng, and two unexpected covers. Blue Oyster Cult and U2 aren't exactly names that come to mind when you think Sea of Bees, but that makes me all the more curious to [...]

Video: Sea of Bees performs new song “Crooked Teeth” on Record Store Day

http://vimeo.com/22705926 We're used to getting treats on Record Store Day, but usually those that require a fight to the vinyl stacks or the hope that the person in front of you isn't pining for the same Arthur Russell LP. The crowd at Armadillo Music in Davis was rewarded for their patience with a brand new song from Sacramento's Sea of Bees, which won't be recorded for some time. Amongst friends and patrons of the record store, Julie Baezinger played an intimate set full of her solo performance nuances -- she distracts herself and the audience with the story behind "Crooked [...]

Photos: Memorable moments from SXSW with Sea of Bees

Editor's Note: As we weren't inclined toward extensive festival coverage at South by Southwest this year, it made sense to send a frantic last-minute inquiry for a guest contribution from a Bay Area musician. Our willing mobile-uploader is the quirky talent Julie Baezinger, also known as (Sea of Bees), who below shares photos and words about her first trip to SXSW. She and her five-piece, Sacramento-based band had an impressively packed schedule -- including sets at Noise Pop, Tape Op, NPR and Brooklyn Vegan shows. Enjoy a brief recollection of time spent with friends and fairies, as told by Jules, [...]

Video: Sea of Bees @ Chasing the Moon

Sea Of Bees @ Chasing The Moon from Scott McDowell on Vimeo. Chasing the Moon is a video podcast series best known for capturing delicately precious moments between musicians, and the latest CTM session features Sacramento's quickly rising Sea of Bees. Finding lead lady Jules cross-legged on the floor with a keyboard definitely sets this apart from most Sea of Bees performances; in addition, the set brings out the enchanting melodrama of the band's remarkable 2010 debut, Songs for the Ravens (Crossbill Records). Setlist: 1. "Gnomes" 2. "Strikefoot" 3. "It Won't Be Long" Chasing the Moon releases new episodes about [...]
