Photos: Savages show no mercy at the Fillmore
Savages (photo: Kristin Cofer) After breaking out quickly from their debut album Silence Yourself in 2013, Savages have been working and touring hard after following that up with this year's Adore Life. They graced the stage at the legendary Fillmore to give a rousing performance that gave all that the energized crowd could want and more. Photographer Kristin Cofer has these shots from the night to share, an early favorite for one of the best shows for the year.
Serious and stern, Savages playing Fillmore Tuesday night between Coachella appearances
It’s kind of funny to think of Savages, the severe and principled British post-punk band, hanging out in the California desert sun, waiting to play their set at Coachella. I could picture Savages’ no-bullshit lead singer Jehnny Beth popping a couple of entitled brats before her band takes the stage for one of their incendiary performances. No, Savages don’t really fit in at Coachella, where the band played last weekend and will play again next weekend. Review & Photos: Station to Station @ 16th Street Station, 9/28/13
After 4,345 miles, Doug Aitken's Levi-sponsored Station to Station reached it's final destination Saturday night at the 16th Street Station in Oakland. Since it opened September 6 in Brooklyn, it has kept rolling via rail in a westerly direction. One night stands in Pittsburgh, Chicago, St. Paul, Santa Fe, Winslow, Arizona, Barstow and Los Angeles have taken place between the Brooklyn and Oakland bookends. 16th Street Station in Oakland is no longer an active station. It was built in 1912 as a passenger station for Southern Pacific, and since the 1989 earthquake it has been divorced from its original purpose [...]
Review: Savages, Duke Garwood at The Independent
Savages kicked off the first of two sold out shows at The Independent on Friday with opener Duke Garwood. Outside the venue, signs and security stressed a strict "no cell phones" policy during Savages' performance. Savages want you to be fully immersed in their art, and while security proved to be relatively lenient in this regard, it goes to show that this band means business. I'm not sure I've ever been less familiar with an opener for a sold out show at The Indy, with London based multi-instrumentalist Duke Garwood and his bassist John Hostile setting the stage. Garwood, who [...]
