Noise Pop 2015: Dan Deacon brings energy and crowd participation to The Chapel

Photos by Jon Ching Dan Deacon – Baltimore's hero of the experimental underground – delivered a classic, highly interactive performance on Saturday night at the Chapel. Using a full light rig to its maximum synchronized potential, Deacon gave the Noise Pop audience exactly what it wanted: dancing, lights, pulsing maniac bass lines, organized dance parties, crowd-surfing, and a heavy dose of his trademark cat-in-a-bag falsetto vocals. I would argue that there isn't a lot of differentiation between songs during Deacon's set — they all sound almost exactly the same. I also think Deacon knows this, and it's why he peppers his [...]

Father/Daughter returns with ‘Faux Real II’

Miss Father/Daughter Records' limited-edition Record Store Day release, Faux Real, last year? You're in luck, because this year, they're coming back with a volume two. The track listing for this year's release, Faux Real II, will be different, of course, but the premise remains the same: indie bands covering songs from fictional bands featured in film and television. This year's version comes equipped with songs like Running in the Fog performing "Killer Tofu," Small Wonder doing "Margerine," and Rivergazer covering "Fever Dog." (Brownie points if you can tell us—without Googling—where those songs originate from.) Hear LVL UP's majorly on-point version [...]

Push the Feeling announces free OSL after party on Friday

The Push the Feeling crew has announced a free show on Friday night at Milk Bar, featuring Silver Hands and Running in the Fog. Not only does the location of the venue make it the perfect Outside Lands Festival after party, but it’s also a good way to escape from the madness of the festival in favor of something more low-key. Plus it’s an unofficial party, so people without OSL wristbands won’t be turned away. The lineup is nothing to scoff at - live sets by chillwave, melodic Silver Hands (of Push The Feeling’s own label) and the ethereal, R&B [...]

Mixtape: Fourteen San Francisco Bands to Watch in 2014

http://media.libsyn.com/media/thebaybridged/Bands_to_Watch_2014.mp3 Download: Mixtape: Fourteen San Francisco Bands to Watch in 2014 We cover a whole lot of San Francisco Bay Area bands at The Bay Bridged, a sign of the wealth of musical talent here. The size of this talent pool, however, presents its own challenge: with so many interesting local bands out there, and with acts emerging seemingly every day, who are the new artists to keep a close eye on in the months to come? This mixtape takes a stab at answering that question, showcasing fourteen excellent local bands that are new to our podcast, young groups with [...]

Jessy Lanza to headline an evening of electronic R&B

Jessy Lanza, the ethereal electro R&B specter behind Pull My Hair Back  (out last year via Hyperdub) will be haunting Amnesia this Saturday as the headliner of the 15th Pro Fans Showcase. Pull My Hair Back, co-written and co-produced by Junior Boys' Jeremy Greenspan, eschews the bloat and overly-saccharine nuances of modern pop in pursuit of raw, breathy vamping. It speaks to Lanza's restrained but ever-present personality—-she knows how to work a room while still maintaining poise. The same can be said for opener Running in the Fog's Amanda Harper. The San Franciscan pulls from 90s R&B and jazz with a keen reverence for [...]
