Mixtape: Things You May Have Missed Earlier This Year (Podcast #280)
Mixtape: Things You May Have Missed Earlier This Year (Podcast #280) Words by Ben Van Houten When it was pitched, this episode was known informally as an "underrated bands" mix, a label that seems as unworkable as it feels insulting. In an age of increasing access to an perpetually growing volume of music, and a culture that focuses on always keeping an eye out for the next big thing, the idea that any band could hold any attention long enough to be over-/under-/rated at all seems unlikely. Forget ratings and rankings: just remembering what you like can be a challenge [...]
Stream the entire new Royal Baths record
Brookyln via San Francisco psych-garage rockers Royal Baths' new album Better Luck Next Life is in stores now. For those inclined to try before you buy, the full album is available to stream below. Better Luck Next Time isn't your typical San Francisco sunny garage rock, but rather a dark, sludgy trip through the sewers — the perfect soundtrack to our three rainy days this winter. If you're still feeling gloomy and want visuals, check out this video for "Black Sheep". Royal Baths - Black Sheep from Royal Baths on Vimeo.
Video: Royal Baths – "Black Sheep"
Royal Baths - Black Sheep from Royal Baths on Vimeo. Royal Baths have had a big year so far -- after recently moving to NYC, the band signed with the Brooklyn-based label Kanine Records for a second full length out February 7, Better Luck Next Life. The first single off of the record was "Darling Divine," which was highlighted on Pitchfork, and a video premiered yesterday for their next celebrated album track, "Black Sheep." No tour dates are announced yet, but surely we'll see this band on the West Coast within the first half of the year. Tracklisting for Better [...]

Royal Baths – “Darling Divine”
Royal Baths - "Darling Divine" After hosting the band's terrific, final SF show, we were all the sadder to see Royal Baths leave for Brooklyn. The band recently announced that Kanine Records will be releasing Better Luck Next Life in February. The moody, Velvetsy "Darling Divine" is the first track released from the new album. Mixtape: The Ones That Got Away (Podcast #255)
This episode is sponsored by BottleRockIt. Mixtape: The Ones That Got Away (Podcast #255) Our recent Regional Bias fundraiser concert featured the final local performance by Royal Baths before the band relocates to the East Coast, a fact that got us thinking about the many active artists who have left the Bay Area for other pastures in recent years. As an organization founded to champion local music, we focus on bands while they live here, but there's always a lingering feeling that great bands that depart are "the ones that got away." This podcast is a mix featuring thirteen bands [...]
Photos & Recap: Regional Bias 2011 with Royal Baths, Little Wings, White Cloud, Sea of Bees
Regional Bias 2011 took place Saturday night, and we couldn't be happier with how it turned out. If you came, thank you for your support! If you missed it, catch up with this photo set from Nicole Browner, Anna Gazdowicz, and Todd Wanerman. Thanks again to everyone involved in RB 2011: To our performers, Little Wings, Royal Baths, White Cloud, and Sea of Bees. To our DJs, Peter Arko, Joe Hayes, and Kevin [...]

To that end, we've got four great bands performing -- Little Wings and Royal Baths, White Cloud, and Sea of Bees -- as well as DJs, art, and more. Entertainment value aside, though, there's another reason to buy [...]
