Rachel Fannan to play keys on The Fresh & Onlys' winter tour, releasing single with band Only You on 10/23/12

Last week, Rachel Fannan announced that she'll be joining The Fresh & Onlys on keyboards (and maybe vocals?) for their upcoming winter tour. For anyone who may follow her on Twitter, Fannan's admiration for the band is clear and the mutual respect among the musicians is one one to root for. Should be a fun addition to the Onlys' live act. Additionally, Fannan will be releasing the first official single for her other project, Only You, on October 23rd, titled "Applying Myself." The track is being released on White Iris Records, and is the first glimpse into Only You's forthcoming [...]

Rachel Fannan, Just Another Snake Cult play The Vortex Room this Sunday 6/3/12

Since departing from Sleepy Sun (should we stop saying that yet?), Rachel Fannan has bounced around from project to project - including all girl rock outfit Only You, and the recently-assembled The Western Canon. Another collaboration has been with Just Another Snake Cult, where Fannan lent vocals to tracks on the group's 2010 release The Dionysian Season. The Dionysian Season by Just Another Snake Cult Both Fannan and Snake Cult roll into SF on June 3rd to The Vortex Room, the second to last stop of a mini-California tour. Though the event says each performer is playing solo, we'd like [...]

Only You plays Brick & Mortar 1/26/12 with Sparrow's Gate

Rachel Fannan's latest project, Only You, is a powerful, all female rock band comprised of Fannan (guitar/vocals), Cecilia Della Peruti (guitar/vocals), Micayla Grace (bass/vocals), and Lia Braswell (drums). Channeling surf and psych sounds, Only You showcases four talented young musicians in the early stages of something special. "We've been getting warmer," shares Fannan. "Only You is still a new group trying to find time to play. Micayla and Cecilia have been friends of mine through music for a few years, and we all sort of waded into each other. And with Braswell, we'd been introduced to her through a sort [...]

Rachel Fannan, Outlaw, Greg Ashley, White Manna at Elbo Room 1/19/11

I could barely get out of bed. South Park had me in the zone. Cartman's hand was Jennifer Lopez. Then I thought about KUSF (90.3) and how I hadn't sent them enough money over the years. Now one of my favorite college radio stations is an unending torture of classical music. I thought about Greg Ashley, another local treasure, and how I was late to his last show. I put on my pants. Outside there was a gigantic full moon as I sped across the Bay Bridge to the Mission. Rachel Fannan was playing when I arrived. She recently parted [...]

Sleepy Sun’s Rachel Fannan showcases her solo music

Rachel Fannan - "Thank You" Given her amazing work as a vocalist in Sleepy Sun, it should come as no surprise that Rachel Fannan's solo work also sounds compelling. Fannan's been recording and performing folk-pop for a while as Birds Fled From Me, but she's back to her given name, with a new solo album called Overwhelm currently in the works. "Thank You," posted above, is off that upcoming record. Rachel will be joined by a full band at the Rickshaw Stop on June 9th (8pm, $10). Also performing are The Yellow Dress and Quite Polite.
