Perfect Pussy forced to cancel for tonight’s TBB Presents gig; show goes on…for FREE
Late last night, we learned that our favorite upstate New York punk outfit Perfect Pussy unfortunately had to cancel their performance at tonight's The Bay Bridged Presents show at Rickshaw Stop due to an emergency medical situation with a band member. Fortunately, the fine folks at the Rickshaw and here at TBB were able to bring on Pure Bliss to round out the lineup with Wild Moth and Happy Diving, and the show will go on...for FREE!!! That's right, all purchased tickets for tonight's show will be refunded in full, but we're still throwing quite the party with three great [...]
Mixtape: Fourteen of the Bay Area's Best Record Labels (Podcast #325)
http://media.libsyn.com/media/thebaybridged/Record_Labels_Mix.mp3 Download: Mixtape: The Bay Area's Best Record Labels (Podcast #325) It's conventional wisdom nowadays that bands no longer need record labels to release music into the world. Still, it would be foolish to think that labels no longer matter. A label association can be a critical stamp of approval for potential new fans; the best labels build audiences' trust to the point that they'll support new artists even before hearing them. All of this is to say nothing, of course, of the distribution services labels can offer, and any financial or booking support they might also provide. In recent [...]
Professional Fans Showcase 006: LENZ, Pure Bliss, Tears Club, Tiaras
This Sunday, Professional Fans will bring the party to Thee Parkside. Pure Bliss, Tears Club, and TIARAS will support headlining band LENZ. Oakland's LENZ was formed in 2010 by Andy Jordan, Ray Seraphin, and Kephera Moon. Once the band established its "ice-pop" sound drawn from krautrock, post-punk, and pop, LENZ released its first 7-inch with SS Records' Scott Soriano in 2011. Drummer Brett Eastman joined the band in 2012, and the quartet released four new tracks as a 12-inch EP on Tic Tac Totally. Moon has since left the band, and Matt Bulimore was brought on as the second guitarist. [...]
Violent Change releases debut LP on Catholic Guilt Records
We last heard from SF's Violent Change in October when the band dropped its debut EP Suck On The Gun via city-based label Melters. The excellent 7-inch was moderately successful, initially moving quickly off local record store shelves and garnering attention from a handful of media outlets. At the end of March, Violent Change returned with its first full-length via Catholic Guilt Records. The record is something of a departure from Suck On The Gun, not necessarily in terms of the songwriting (which remains just as choice as on the EP), but more in terms of its overall sonic qualities. [...]
Parquet Courts playing two Bay Area shows this weekend
(Photo: Ben Rayner) Brooklyn-via-Texas post-punk rockers Parquet Courts will headline two shows in the Bay Area this week as part of a U.S. tour flanked between two Texas festivals, Chaos in Tejas and Austin City Limits. The band will perform with San Francisco's Cocktails and Pang on June 7 at Rickshaw Stop, and with Pure Bliss and Meat Market for an afternoon show on Sunday, June 9 at 1-2-3-4-Go! Records in Oakland. The young four-piece released its acclaimed proper debut LP, Light Up Gold, last year. As the follow-up to the overlooked cassette release American Specialties, Light Up Gold matches [...]
