Photos: Chasms and Pure Bathing Culture at the Chapel

Chasms (photo: Kristin Cofer) Recently located to southern California, Chasms performed at The Chapel last Friday evening, March 10, 2017. It was a touching performance as one of the members of the band, Sky Madden, had lost her brother in the Oakland Ghost Ship fire late last year. They were joined by Pure Bathing Culture and our photographer Kristin Cofer has this gallery to share from the night.

As we mentioned several podcasts ago, The Magik*Magik Orchestra has been adding welcome orchestral layers to local indie artists' works for years. The orchestra's five years of work is being celebrated with a special concert at the Fox Theater this month, where they'll be joined by a bevy of great acts, including past collaborators How to Dress [...]

Pure Bathing Culture announces SF show and releases Jessie Ware cover

Photo: Parker Fitzgerald Portland-via-Brooklyn duo Pure Bathing Culture creates seamless, folk-fringed music on their debut Moon Tides, out earlier this year via Partisan Records. The new album, featuring Sarah Versprille's sweet voice and Daniel Hindman's cloaking guitar-work, garnered them some serious recognition as creating one of the year's best, and even led them to our very own Brick & Mortar last spring. Now, Pure Bathing Culture has announced another local show this January 20 at the Chapel (co-headlining with La Luz) and, just a couple days ago, they released a cover of Jessie Ware's "Wildest Moments" via Rookie Magazine. Their velvety, dreamy take [...]

Review & Photos: Pure Bathing Culture at Wood Shoppe, 7/2/13

Brick and Mortar’s monthly series Wood Shoppe is always a hit - a free show on the first Tuesday of each month, cheap beer, good company, and of course a consistently stellar lineup of up-and-coming bands. What’s not to love? The most recent Wood Shoppe show was no exception. In fact, with Pure Bathing Culture headlining, it was one of the best nights of the Wood Shoppe series I’ve been to. It’s pretty typical of Wood Shoppe to have a finger on the pulse, but for this show they really hit it out of the park. Cannons & Clouds opened [...]

Live This Month: October 2012 — an audio guide through SF concerts this month (Podcast #289)

Live This Month: October 2012 — an audio guide through SF concerts this month (Podcast #289) In Live This Month, we sample some of the great local and out-of-town bands performing in the coming month in the San Francisco Bay Area. Live music in the Bay Area in October means two big local music festivals in Hardly Strictly Bluegrass and Treasure Island, but smaller indoor temptations abound all month long. Chris Cohen has a resume full of involvement in great bands, including Deerhoof and Cryptacize, but his new solo album is an intimate work that ranks as one of this [...]
